Taking Xmas bonus back

Post by daveevans »

Got paid the £200 Xmas bonus on Friday , but unfortunately was off sick the Friday and then the Saturday , went back in today and was told by the manager that the Xmas bonus would have to be paid back in January , as I was no longer entitled to it . I went to see my Union rep about it and he said this was right , and they would automically take the bonus back off me in January . Is this right ?

No.

Firstly, the bonus was £100, the other £100 was a payment relating to the colleague share scheme.

It is yours, you have earned it. Sick absence has absolutely nothing to do with it, as long as you were receiving full-pay (from my understanding)

Your manager is talking crap, and tell your rep to get up to speed and read the agreement :cuppa

this year I've heard there's 4 qualifying weeks, last 2 of November and first 2 in December, working out at £25 per week for the Xmas bonus, so bonus is only reduced if any sickness was taken in those 4 weeks. but i was sick for 3 months over from novemeber over xmas last year and still received it

The Royal Mail pay directive states :

Eligibility for payment is linked to employment during the christmas pressure period.

For each full week an individual receives no pay during the pressure period ( eg unpaid special leave etc ) the individual will lose one quarter of the supplement.

For each full week where basic pay is reduced for sick pay pension rate the individual will lose one quarter of the supplement.

For each full week where basic pay is reduced for sick half pay the individual will lose one - eighth of the supplement

For each day counted midnight to midnight excluding bank holidays on which an employee takes unofficial industrial action their supplement will be abated by 10%
for official action it will be abated by 3%

Thank heavens for that pesky controversial dark side much too militant postie site. :cuppa

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

For each full week a PTer works more hours than a FTer completely fail to recognise their efforts in any way shape or form.

It's not an attendance related bonus. Tell your manager he is an idiot and tell your rep you'll be standing against them at the next elections as they ain't got a clue either :arrrghhh :arrrghhh

Why is there absolutely no comeback/consequences for managers when they blatantly lie to their staff?

I sometimes think they believe what they say, or have been told by their superiors to insinuate these things to try and stop people going sick during xmas pressure.

Load of us on 20 hour contracts got told we weren't entitled to a meal relief, even the DSM stated as much, despite our 318s having it built in, even when shown the meal relief agreements they still insisted anyone working under 25 hours a week didn't get any meal relief, we all stuck a grievance in and they had to give us back 40 hours each (6months worth)

No 4 weeks from 24 Nov and its only reduced for Strikes 3% offical per day 10% wildcats per day, and sickness ONLY WHEN PAY IS REDUCED.

How about a FAQ section on rmc for topics such as this one and the good old fruit "why don't I get paid as much for d2d's as a full timer" !

Thanks for replies and feedback on this , the latest is that when I questioned manager again today , he was still adamant that I will be deducted this bonus money , and all he backed it up was with , this is what he has been told . I did ask if he had this in writing , he said no , but he will speak to area manager about it later to clarify .I've gave up on union rep as he seems to just agree with the manager !
