Off sick & my long weekend

I’m currently off sick with my self cert due to end on xmas eve and can’t see me going back before then. I then have my long weekend over 27th-29th December, so does that mean my expected return to work day is Tuesday 30th or can I be made to go back on the Saturday 27th.

Phone in on Christmas eve and tell them you are fit to return to work and you just go back on Tuesday 30th

Spot on, make sure you do this then Xmas eve will be classed as your last day of absence. Record the call if you can just in case they deny getting it when you return.

People often get confused over days off - my wife especially - she can never work out if I have a week off whether I have to go into work on the Saturday or not!

Anyway, if you have regular days off on 'your' duty then treat it as a typical Monday-Friday job. You have two days off that week Saturday and Sunday, they can't make you do [on paper] a six day week just because you have been off sick.

But yes, definitely phone in on Christmas Eve to say you are fit for work otherwise they will count the 25th to the 29th as sick leave and your self-cert will be invalid so you'll need a doctors note and you will use up all your sick leave.
