30 years service and never heard of this

Post by 35wayno »

This morning in our unit, the line manager and Dom went around the office asking staff to throw door to door items in their fittings, nothing unusual in that I hear you say until:
These items ( I would guess about 15000 in total ) had been dumped around the unit over the last two week.
The managers were just handing out bundles to anyone and instructing them to deliver the items where they were going.
There was no logic whatsoever to where these items were being dispensed.

I refused to take the items on the grounds that most of the leaflets were time expired, for example there were a lot of farm foods and aldi items with money off vouchers that had actually gone out of date. I also explained that the d2d posting customers actually invested a lot of time and money to make sure the leaflets go to the right areas at the right time.

The Dom then got involved and said that he could not possibly send all these items back to the d2d centre as he had a return target of 1% per week.

In my case he backed off and left me alone but he then handed the items to more compliant members of staff.
Has this ever happened to anyone else, it's the first time I have ever seen this in 30 years of service?

Send an email to head office - it isn't grassing up, your DOM was clearly trying defraud RM, something you would be sacked for (and sacked by your DOM).

If anyone is doing something wrong then mention it to them. If anyone is blatantly trying to scam your employer then get in touch with someone who can do something about it.

All of the bundles should have a walk sticker on them so they go to correct addresses,

sticker is normally just on the first d2d of each bundle. they are easy to get rid of, leaving the bundle unidentifiable.

if his dom is guilty of trying to defraud RM, then he need not be worried about that cos the dom will be out the door.

Thanks for all your advice, it is appreciated.
This story gets even better. Today after everything that happened I was on sorting. The Dom gave another handful of 'dumped ' d2d to my partner and asked him to throw it it in the fitting. I went round and told my partner that we shouldn't be taking these items, citing the fact that the items were neither timely nor correct to your delivery. The Dom the instructed me to take these items and I refused stating that I did not believe this to be a ' reasonable instruction '. The Dom then told me he would not suspend me as I was not a serious threat to the integrity of the mail. I stated that he was the person that was a threat to mail integrity by asking staff to deliver items that had been dumped around the office. Once again he then left both me and my partner alone and started passing the d2d to different staff around the unit. - UNBELIEVABLE!!

Is it really worth the fuss over some D2Ds? The companies paid to advertise, so long as their leaflet is going through a potential customers door that's all they care about. If the vouchers have expired which most people are not going to bother checking it I'm sure the shop would still honour it.

Yes.
The company pays to advertise in a certain area for a certain period. That is what they pay us for.
Sometimes to coincide with the promotion they have extra staff or extra call centre time booked.
Would you be happy if you paid for a football ticket and someone decided to send it a week late?
Do you think if you turned up at a different match with an out of date ticket they would still honour it at the turnstile?

When the company becomes aware of the fact their product hasn't been delivered to spec they will be entitled to compensation and a refund of their printing costs etc.
What actually should be a source of revenue (that pays our wages) actually becomes a liability because someone can't be arsed to do their job properly and a manager cannot ensure that the workload is properly resourced and completed.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Well to put it another way, if your walk had no contracts for a week and a ' neighbouring delivery had six contracts how would you feel the manager instructed you to take three lots in your walk, how would you feel and how would the d2d customer feel. The point about d2d customers' being able to claim compensation is very valid.
Most of all remember that numerous colleagues have been conducted and even dismissed for not delivering d2d correctly
