Staff Morale
As a veteran of RM seen many strikes and the reasons behind them .
Normally Christmas time whilst busy ,their is a good atmosphere in the offices, and a chance to earn some docket for reasonable effort ,never any cut offs ,you stay out and clear it ,possible for a hour max .
This Christmas ,morale is so low it is off the scale, far worse than any strike period ,under P&L whole walks coming back ,cut offs of several loops and large packets on several walks everyday.
Almost every one you talk are so fed up that the workload is impossible and Managers simply expect you to stay out and clear it regardless of how long it will take or your own commitments outside work.
Unless staff morale is addressed by either CWU or RM we are heading like Yodell.

Re: Staff Morale
Yet there are apparently tens of thousands of extra temporary staff working for RM over the Christmas period.
Well, there certainly aren't any in our office.

Re: Staff Morale
Managers standing around eating sandwiches doesn't help , managers walking to and fro with a kettle in their hand doesn't help , we're snowed under , dead pda's if you are lucky to get 2 to a pair, no diesel , no tracked stickers, no screens to read, no wtll , no porters - no help , MANAGERS DON'T HELP STOOD AROUND CHATTING!
And all this is before we go out and they start their 4 hour office break/chatting! Get rid of managers (except the dom and underdom). Fed up of saying this

Re: Staff Morale
Well at least in my office the managers don't stand around doing jack s**t. They are normally prepping walks, doing redi's, dead letters, sorting, doing the missorts and actually going out on delivery. Like today. All because the runners have to finish inside their duty time. Oh and also because there is not enough work for the managers to do.5plusbonusball wrote:Managers standing around eating sandwiches doesn't help , managers walking to and fro with a kettle in their hand doesn't help , we're snowed under , dead pda's if you are lucky to get 2 to a pair, no diesel , no tracked stickers, no screens to read, no wtll , no porters - no help , MANAGERS DON'T HELP STOOD AROUND CHATTING!

Re: Staff Morale
Kind of hijacking this thread but defo comes under the title of staff morale. I'm a full time rural floater I haven't been told but am expecting to show in each morning and the duty I'm supposed to be covering is already covered.....by who? Yes by the duty holder working their day off. I'm am then told to do x,y, or z ie parcels and specials on routes I don't know.
Please anyone......can I demand to be on the delivery I'm supposed to be on and get the duty holder who has come in on their day off to do x, y, or z?

Re: Staff Morale
We have not had ONE temp. new face in a quite big DO. All the posties are working either on rounds or packeting. I cut-off this Thursday and Friday (I never signed the December 'extending' sheet pledging to go over if workload requires.) Today not having the school run I stayed out until 15:20 on our walk, and left the office at 15:45. It was by far the worst day of the week. We had the perfect storm - Virgin Media A4 addressed junk for every house not having VM, water company envelope for all houses in some streets and to cap it all on the 'village' round of the pair the local MP had decided to mass - mail EVERY person on the electoral register!!!
It was mental.
The managers missus (reserve) of course on the easiest round possible, the sometime-postie sometime-office jockey girl had the usual quick-finish round allocated to her for the whole of December while muggins has had 4 weeks of the worst round possible, one that even those wanting their own round won't apply for so is lapsed throughout the year (it's notorious for packets all year round.)
To say I and the other reserves are p!ssed-off is an understatement.

Re: Staff Morale
I'm not sure you can demand anything but on the duty holders day off then the duty is yours. The duty holder doing the OT is the person who should do the other work, however, when DOM's need work done and the OPG says I'll only come in if it is on my walk you can see why they do it. Speak to your rep.lylehillboonen wrote:Kind of hijacking this thread but defo comes under the title of staff morale. Re: Staff Morale
Thanx for the reply surreypostie. The rep doesn't give a toss the response is usually work till your time. That is actually great advice and the one which causes the most concern for the management. I know others in different unit are having serious B & H issues evident from other threads so my gripe is a very minor one. Is it even on the radar for the cwu to ballot for a nationwide strike re B & H or is the union totally without any clout these days.......I think I know the answer already?

managers aren't supposed to be doing opg work. that's why staff aren't made up and allows lapsing .you should down tools until it stopsSpy wrote:Well at least in my office the managers don't stand around doing jack s**t. Re: Staff Morale
Well said tiggle the posties need to start sanding up for themselves or we will get walked all over. It's the patronising way they question the overtime when you book it so put the stress straight back at them and tell them you won't work any OT. But the weak 'yes' men who are afraid to say no will always ensure the work gets done. So get up stand up!tiggle wrote:Surreypostie wrote:Don't book any then, cut it to zero, cut off.tiggle wrote:Puppetmaster wrote:As a veteran of RM seen many strikes and the reasons behind them .

Re: Staff Morale
Well I must admit this is my most stressless xmas in 16 years. Why? Because this year I've refused all overtime and just work my hours. That means leaving loop(s) and all the large packets. Do the mis-managers like it, no, do I give a toss, no.
