PDA battery

Doing a town walk with a PDA that only lasts 90 mins tops before going to 0%,my manager told me this morning to scan every non signature tracked parcel in office before leaving!so I did!all 16 of them.
I take it this is all above board?

It is called a doorstep scan for a very very simple reason, one even your DOM might understand.

We get told not to scan anything before we leave the office, have to take the old paper cards out with us now. Use the PDA for tracks and Specials assuming the battery lasts long enough. Royal Mail senior management need to sort this out, we need new equipment now, not in 5 years, no good telling us to scan this and scan that if they cannot supply PDA's. I very much doubt the company that supply them could replace the batteries even if asked, the financial cost to them of having all those spares on the shelf just incase we need them would be ridiculous. As always RM don't think of things like this.

We have people who are having to take cards out everyday and then have to do the scans when they get back to the office due to not enough working pda's

shameful piece of kit. Old, worn out, not fit for purpose...just like the vans!

At our office due to not enough PDA's because the van drivers are using them for large parcel deliveries, we have insufficient PDA's for postmen on delivery.
Not only that the PDA's that are left about half of them have defective batteries and about 3 of them only last about 1 hour.
You have the early starters nicking the good batteries and the rest are left with the crap ones.

All the HCT postmen have had their PDA's taken off them and their RD and Tracked are scanned BEFORE they leave the office and if they can't get rid of them they are scanned again as NOT DELIVERED.

The PDA batteries will be even worse in the winter, they really don't like the cold............now if RM had any sense they would replace the batteries when they need to instead of the piss poor system we have now (where we have to send away the whole PDA and with no guarantee of getting one back that is any better).

I've lost count of the number of times a replacement PDA has arrived with a dead battery with not enough charge to boot it.

The trouble is Li-ion batteries that are used on the PDA have a finite number of charge cycles until the capacity is significantly reduced. So with them charging every day it soon knackers the battery, and the PDA cabinets they sit in put more wear on the batteries from the heat.

The PDA itself doesn't help matters as the technology inside is over a decade old and the equivalent today would use a fraction of the power.

Swap it with another that has plenty of life left, that's what we do. I think there is one good battery that does the rounds
