If a manager called a postman fat,Could he get in trouble?
I witnessed a manager say to someone that if he went over his time and completed delivery that he might lose some of that weight.
The lad never took it any further,But pissed me off,How dare he ?

I think it would have been hard to take that any further. They seem to just say and do what they want these days. Best to just ignore their pathetic attempts to needle us.

I think they must tell them to do stuff like that on manager training courses. In my office they are always making snidey remarks. I treat them with indifference and that's the best way to throw it back at them.

They are mostly bullies just in varying degrees. Good managers seem to be thin on the ground.

If it was done light heartedly then it could be seen as banter. However if it was said with menace that's different.

It does not matter how it is said, it is how the receiver of such a statement perceives it. What is a joke to someone, may be an embarrassment to someone else.

Passing any form of comment no matter how it is intended is very risky nowadays unless you know the person extremely well. Some would say that it is a good thing that everything is becoming so politically correct, my view is that if comments are clearly made with humorous intent and if the recipient is not offended there is no harm done. It is when the same people are always picked upon and singled out that I start to have a problem with 'banter'.

A person in authority should no better than making such comments. Even if i overheard such a comment i would make a complaint. People do not realise the lasting damage such comments can have . Banter as you call it is only acceptable if it is reciprocated, that includes anyone else in the vacinity
