Available duty
Hi all, In our office I am the only full time leave reserve. (10 years in). A full time duty has come up due to someone leaving. My question is will I be the obvious replacement for said duty as I am the only one without a duty, (I do want it) or can someone else with seniority over me come off their duty and pick it over me? There is a division of opinion in the office, some say I should get it as I am the only one without a duty and some say anyone can go for it. It does seem unfair to me if I am the only one without a duty and I can get bumped. Is there a common policy on this? Thanks in advance for any advice.

Re: Available duty
I think anyone can put in for it providing they hadnt signed for another duty in the last 12 months. If someone senior to you gets it then there duty goes up on the board and you can sign for that again aslong as they havent signed for another within 12 months.
If its come up because someone has left they may not want to put a full timer on it as they are trying to cut hours down in offices. We have a couple of duties they never got replaced with full timers. And yes we have to absorb the extra hours on ips etc.

Re: Available duty
AFAIK anyone can apply for a vacant duty even part timers, the selection will be the most senior applying albeit that they haven't moved duties within the previous 12 months.
You mention that you have no duty, just to clarify that a Full time leave reserve is a duty, just not a fixed one. When there is a repick these leave reserve duties are normally last picked, but they also get selected based on seniority as well.

Re: Available duty
The duty is going to be full time there is no doubt about that and the entire office has signed for a duty in the last 12 months as we had a repick in the spring following our revision.jeanie wrote:I think anyone can put in for it providing they hadnt signed for another duty in the last 12 months. Re: Available duty
As TrueBlue said, if it was a re-pick following your revision, the 12 month period does not apply.
There is no such thing as a full time duty, all duties after a revision are "supposed" to be the same length of time. The defining difference is if that duty has IPS included.
So as you say, it will be a full time contract, meaning there will be IPS included on that duty, so if a part time contracted person applies, they will either have to increase his/hers contracted hours to reflect that job, or remove the IPS time.
So, it is unlikely they will let a part time contracted person apply, because as you have already said, they want to remove hours not increase and if they did allow a part time contract get the vacant duty, it would have a knock on effect, because now they will be 1 short on IPS.
