Does anyone have a link to the exact terms of the Toil agreement?
Just to save me from hunting the forum can anyone point me to the terms and are they still applicable today or have we moved on with other agreements?
Thanks.

Re: Time off in lieu
Basically I am looking for a decent case to approach management with when time off is needed.
At the moment if the day you need off is not booked as annual leave then management make you take it as unpaid leave.
But with the TOIL agreement surely there is a case of paying the time you have off back.
I am not overly familiar with this agreement so any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

There is no national toil agreement that applies to OPG grades unfortunately

Re: Time off in lieu
Thanks for that.
Is there any document with guidance?
Is time off in lieu mentioned anywhere in any Royal mail literature?
It must be mentioned somewhere.
I mean how do management decide if you are entitled to time off in lieu?

Only managerial grades get toil and I believe that has largely been curtailed somewhat.Cyclopz wrote:Thanks for that.

I am seriously behind the times.dvbuk55 wrote:Only managerial grades get toil and I believe that has largely been curtailed somewhat.
My knowledge of Royal mail procedures is about five years out of date I think.
I honestly believed that TOIL was still a workable procedure at Ground roots level.
I guess it's hard to keep an eye on the amount of hours owed by OPG's and also it is open to corruption.
At our office if you need a day off and it is not available you simply don't get paid.
It's under the government legislation of domestic emergencies and has a very wide definition, I think it is aimed at helping women with families.
The legislation is definitely aimed at helping people with domestic emergencies, although you don't get paid for time off.
The legislation supersedes any Royal mail documentation, it is more powerful than local company agreements.
The cost to the company for the unpaid absence is I just don't know, a form filling exercise maybe.
Agency staff are more productive than contract staff so the company probably prefers it this way.
The company would prefer it if we all left and took VR and left agency workers to do our job every day.
Management can shout bully and intimidate agency workers all day long.
They don't find it so easy to do this with us.

Re: Time off in lieu
I think what we used at our old place was based on the flexibility agreement contained withing the pay and modernisation agreement and extended by local agreement to allow time off in lieu for things like dentist appointments and the like.
We were lucky there because management were quite relaxed about these things.
This locally agreed TOIL must be the reason why I cannot find any national agreements that even mention TOIL.
