If your RM vehicle has no tax disc, don't forget to request written confirmation from your manager that the vehicle is taxed.
No written confirmation - don't take the vehicle out on the public highway.

How do we know if the vehicle has a current MOT either. One of ours a few months ago had run out months before...........and who do the police prosecute..... you've guessed it.

It has already been confirmed by Royal Mail that checking the tax status on a vehicle is no longer part of your routine van checks.

Don't know about you but we have a MOT/PSV disc on all our vans.

Its not hearsay, I took it in to the depot for testing in July and it had run out in the March.

Any driver who drives a vehicle, whether it belongs to them or not, has a responsibility to ensure that they are insured to drive the vehicle, that the vehicle is fully road legal, taxed and MOT'd.

If you are stopped by the police it is you as the driver who will face prosecution. Under certain circumstances the keeper may also be prosecuted.

My question was, do you know of any Royal Mail employee who has been successfully prosecuted for driving a Royal Mail vehicle that was not MOT'ed ?

No. Satisfied. But it does not detract from the fact that it is the driver who is responsible.

I still have the old style paper license (held together with sellotape) Never had a photocard one

I checked our vehicle last month online when the tax expired to make sure it had been renewed, it also shows the MOT expiry date. I Will do that everytime I am given a different vehicle.
