She may escape with a serious warning then if she put customers name down and then faked a signature she would more than likely lose her job

I think the point is the item is gone , she signed for it, then door stepped it. She will be lucky depends if the Dom is a xxxx or not

I have some sympathy with this postlady, thinking you are doing the people you deliver to a favour. When it goes wrong however. No favours, I knocked on a door one saturday morning when we used to get out while it was still dark, a bloke leant out of the upstairs window. I advised I had an item for him to sign for, oh scribble in your book and pop it in the door he said. Sorry mate, I need you to come down or I pop a card in your door and you have to collect it. He wasn't happy. If I had done that and he denied having it, it is my neck on the line.

Loads do this in our office, especially those who have been on their own round for years. Coincidentally they make tons of tips at xmas.

i know posties in our office who have signed specials and posted them through. sure they know the customer but if one day that special goes 'missing' then im sure they'l be leaving

The guy who previously did the walk I'm on used to do pretty much everything you shouldn't. Doorstepped, signed for stuff etc. He was on this walk for many years and knew his addresses well, nice area etc always finished early so always did overtime, boss's golden boy. Me? I have to deal with the recipients who expect the same treatment from me and are bitterly disappointed that their old arrangement doesn't apply.

We are aloud to sign for certain recorded/SD items, if certain circumstances apply, as in, disabled, blind or very old.

Question is, was the outhouse the customers designated safe place ?
Has items been left there before for this customer ?

Just remember, when the new PDA eventually rolls out, we will be aloud to leave items in designated safe places. So in my opinion, it will be hard for RM to punish a person for leaving things safe, when it will be part of our job in the very near future, they have kind of dug themselves a hole.

We can leave stuff in a designated safe place now, if there is an instruction on the packet, and DTN isn't available. What we can't do now, and will unlikely to be in the future is to sign for something ourselves and chuck it in the nearest shed.

It will be a very forgiving gaffer indeed that will let the postie in the OP keep their job.
