how does a ohs / atos referral work?

i've been in a bad car accident. i have just handed in a 3 week sick note and and my dom has asked me to come into work and fill out a form online for ohs referal. he says they dont arrange these things anymore , and its me that has to come in and do it , i asked has this changed as ive never heard of that happening before and his reply was its changed in the last 2-3 weeks,

From the sound of it I'd ask yourself why the manager want you to come in to fill put a form?

I'm not saying that this may happen but here's a scenario...

"Well you look okay and you managed to come here to fill this out,maybe you can prep d2ds?"
No reason why it cannot be arranged over the phone.

Also of your fit note states no work,then don't :)
If they insist on you filling a form out,ask them to post it out.

You can also self refer

The HELP nu her on your payslip is useful too.

The policy concerning ehs seems to change a lot and is probably due to budgets. They now like the ehs only to speak to you by phone at £50 cost to Royal Mail as a 30 minute face to face costs them £100. A bad back which may have been an instant referral before, now must be a bad back for at least 7 days, and then only a phone call. You might think ill take up the offer of free physiotherapy then, but this may have been withdrawn where you work. One tip is if you play along with them and make management feel they are in control you could actually end up with more than enough time to recover out of work and on rehab than if you'd put up a fight. They have to feel in control even if it means paying out more money?

im already getting physio arranged via my car insurance,
my accident was on 7th nov but i wanted a phased return to work when im well enough put into place by a qualified team/ not a manager saying i think you could do this n that n the other,
i didn't even get a first day absence letter, maybe they're really short of money and empathy

OHS are employed by Royal Mail and for that reason your Manager must make the referral on your behalf. You can ask to be referred and your Manager can ask you if you'd like to be referred, but you cannot self refer and you cannot be referred without your consent. In order to prove your consent your Manager may be asking you to fill in and sign a consent form for that referral. There is no reason why they cannot send that consent form out to you and logically no reason why a system designed to help those who cannot normally attend the work place would require your attendance at the work place.

OHS cannot do much, if anything, for you if you if you are already undergoing physio, they would never arrange side by side help as their advice may conflict with that of your current health professional.

yeah. he definately did not say it was a consent form of any kind,and did say it couldnt be done unless i filled it in.
also,my thoughts were , ohs could put into place a return to work plan for me. as management team seem to assume alot unless its in writing,
along with dom telling me to do this my line manager then brought up an annual leave form,for me to pick hols for next year, which he had already allocated i hasen to add. . i just feel pressured as all i was doing was handing in my sick note , and got a barrage of questions and todo stuff off both
