I can see RM becoming a two tier service with mail staff working all part time five days a week and packet/parcel deliveries 7 days a week. Anything other than that won't wash with customers at either end of the transaction with most couriers delivering at weekends and evenings.

At the moment I do 23.5 hours over Thursday, Friday and Saturday (then the same for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday).

Exactly true reducing to 5 days is just the start, look at recent years on deliveries cutbacks after cutbacks more lapsing etc. And it wont stop there 3 day a week is where they really want to go bit by bit year after year to the bare bones. It will be achieved with a little nudge and wink and a shifty handshake by cwu.

It would save a hell of a lot more than £100m a year! 1/6th of the workforce gone inc pensions, sick pay etc. 15,000 jobs gone, both full and part time, average wage somewhere around £300 per week - that's £4.5m per week or £225m per year without even starting with anything else such as reduced fleet running costs, heating/lighting for offices etc etc.

The figure would be closer to £500m without a doubt.

As for getting rid of a weekday delivery, I can't see it. Mon-Fri are the business days, businesses are all RM care about as that's where the money comes from and I can't see any day other than Saturday going first.

The CWU would pretend to put up a fight, but in the end they'd claim victory because RM wanted a 1 day a week delivery and they managed to stop it at 5, with the extra workloads spread across the remaining days securing FT jobs. You read it here first!
