Doing a chat about job to nursery children

Has anyone ever done this and if so any hints and tips, it will be 4yr old children I've agreed to chat to and I've no idea where to start.

Royal Mail used to have an Education Dept who were able to supply giveaways appropriate to the age group. Have a look on the Intranet site.

You have been brought in to chat about your job to assist with their afternoon nap.

Have a chat with the reception teacher before you do it and turn it into a project for them. Work out what you need to make a mini sorting frame i.e. milk bottle crates and get them to build a post-box or a small post office counter. Bring in a few hi-viz, hats, rec del stickers, P739 cards and any other props your DOM will let you have. Get all the children to prepare a stamped addressed but unsealed envelope for them to post and then prepare a nice letter from the office to deliver to them.

Ask them if they know their local postman and if not try to ascertain which road they are living on and if you know who does the delivery - tell them. Talk about pets and postmen, particularly the relationship with dogs.

Set up the milk crate as a frame with the road they live on labelled so they can "sort a letter" and then if it's permitted arrange for a follow up visit from the school to see your office.

This sort of thing is great for community relations but not so sure that RM are interested in supporting it any more - used to be loads of fun for our office many years ago.

And tell them not to bother sticking a "No Junk Mail" on their letterbox and explain the correct procedure for opting out.

I've done one at a nursery,just waffle on about letters and give them a couple of boxes of D2D's to play with, then call in the next day and hopefully they should be nested together,no seriously kids at that age are great and it's no trouble it's when they get to teenage years they want gassing.

I've done it a couple of times...it's quite a laugh.I normally bring a story about a postman and get the kids to do some sorting using coloured cards and some boxes with slits cut in them with the corresponding colours.They love it!
