na mate,I rung up not long ago and was told they only taking people with licenses and have no plans on training anybody up.

That could change in the coming year with predicted driver shortages, not just HGV, LGV are affected as well, as new drivers since January 1997 need class 3 training known as C1, HGV is cat C, most tend to take the test at cat C so they can drive anything over 3,500 tons, however at the top end, lots of older drivers are retiring especially since they have to take further training which they find quite insulting as they have driven for years, they don't want to pay out for further training, so they are leaving along with agency drivers who are generally treated like rubbish by employers and customers, I looked into training up and thats when I found all this out. Royal Mail may want to train up more drivers so that they will have a reserved pool of drivers. it may not happen straight away, only when the shortages starts to bite.
