Letter to Branches
No. 693/14
Ref: GS14.24
Date: 6th November 2014
To: All Branches
Dear Colleagues,
Political Fund Ballot Result
You will know that the union has been balloting its members on the retention of the union’s Political Fund.
We are pleased to announce to branches a successful result in the ballot.
The union has delivered a 31.8% turnout and a substantial 86.8% Yes vote in this ballot. The turnout of 31.8% was the highest amongst the larger unions. The 4 largest unions and others in our sector have returned a turnout between 10% and 19.9% so it is clear that our campaign of engagement has lifted our turnout well above those of other unions of bigger or comparable size, showing excellent reach amongst CWU members. Please find attached a spreadsheet detailing the branch breakdown of the ballot.
The Certification Officer was advised of the result on Thursday 29th October 2014 and this letter is attached for your information. We received formal confirmation on the 3rd November 2014 from the Certification Officer of the retention of our political fund for the next ten years.
I would like to thank all CWU activists who were involved in this campaign and also to Kevin Slocombe, Head of Communications and his team who headed up this initiative on behalf of the NEC. Any enquiries on this LTB should be forwarded to the General Secretary’s Office gsoffice@cwu.org, quoting reference GS14.24
Yours sincerely,
W HAYES
General Secretary

Aye I wouldn't be boasting too much when over 130,000 didn't vote at all. So much for involvement.

Where do we send the opt out form for the political payment to?
Had enough of paying a party that is of no interest to me, why we aren't informed when we join the union that we can opt out is beyond me
