Example, finished shift and have 1 pint before taking van home.
Is that a sackable offence even if under drink driving limit.

I wouldn't if I were you just to be on the safe side. I worry about even having a couple of drinks the night before if I've got work the next day. Saying that though I know of people who go out on the lash and come into work still half cut. I guess it all depends how much you value your job.

It might depend whether that pint was drink before or after your official finish time.

It may not be sackable but it is bad practice and 1 pint could lead to another half and another. Take the van home and then walk to the pub.

Although by having 1 pint you are more than likely to be under the drink drive limit however the official line taken would be that you are allowed to take van home for business convenience not to transport you for your own social activities.
You should have taken the van to your home first then went for your pint.
