We were still struggling to put all the mail in when the part-timers arrived, and yet our new lino decided to collapse 3 duties; which works out that everyone (apart from the 4 timed drivers) doing an extra loop each.
Some of the 4 day weekers' decided to make a stand and not do the lapse because by the time they had fully prepped the duties, as well as tie up their own, it would be late for them leaving the office. The new flexibility of long and shorts actually worked in their favour because they were on pay today till 3pm (2.30pm with half an hour meal relief added on the end) and not 3.25. One of the guys actually asked the lino why our winter lapsing was much bigger than our summer lapsing to which he replied that we didn't collapse enough during the summer!! lol
But it dropped him in it because he was now asking staff whether they could work the lapse as overtime. We were reassured that it would be classed as "overtime" and not excess.
I couldn't do it because I need to leave the office at around 2.30 to do the school run. They managed to get one or two staff to work overtime for their loops, whilst a few of the idiots that had come and left the office early were doing it unpaid.. 
The manager was taking out quite a few loops himself. I asked him why we were collapsing 3 duties when he could see that we were so busy? Where was the mail traffic forecast? He said it was just unreliable. 
Hmmm rubbish, he was trying to make a name for himself by saving more hours and it has backfiredWhen we had finished doing our duty using LWTs we made our way back to the office at around 2.20ish and spotted that there were only half a dozen vans or so in the yard. My colleague looked at me and said "who are the clever ones, is it the ones out there doing this lapsing or those that are working to their time!!?"
