Face to Face sick meeting
a person in the DO I am in rang in sick yesterday morning at 05:00, the manager then rang him back at 06:00 asking him how he was and that he would like him to come into the office for a face to face sickness chat.
I know this is complete BS, but the dom recons that this is part of the new procedure, I have already got a grievance form written out for the person, but would like a copy of the sick reporting procedure to really help with the grievance.

Re: Face to Face sick meeting
Notifying absence and
maintaining contact
• Employees will advise of their absence
before the commencement of the shift
in accordance with the arrangements
set out for their office
• Discussion will cover the reason for
absence, likely duration and anticipated
return date and any support which Royal
Mail may be able to offer
• The employee and manager should
seek to agree an appropriate time and
date for reviewing together all but very
short absences
• Employees need to provide a self
certificate for the first 7 days of absence
and a medical certificate for any absence
over 7 days
• The aim of maintaining contact during an
absence is to encourage an early return to
work wherever possible
• In the rare event that contact is not
maintained following the expiry of a ‘Fit
Note’, the manager should make reasonable
efforts to make contact including sending
contact letters by Special Delivery and
First Class post. If the employee does not
make contact, he or she will be given two
days’ written notice before any suspension
of sick pay.

Re: Face to Face sick meeting
Notifying absence and agreeing
contact arrangements
Where an employee is unable to attend for
work due to illness, they must notify their
manager as soon as possible, before the
beginning of their shift or usual work start time
and in accordance with the local arrangements
set out for their office or work location.
The employee should advise their manager of
the reason for their absence, the likely duration
and anticipated return date. There should also
be a discussion between the manager and
the employee about any support which Royal
Mail Group may be able to offer, including
any support that may be able to assist the
employee in their return to work.
Where the employee’s absence is going to
be longer than a few days, the manager and
employee should agree how they will maintain
contact during the period of the absence,
both the level of contact - how often, and the
method e.g. email, telephone conversation.
This is to ensure that managers are kept fully
aware of the situation, can reallocate work and
plan ahead where necessary.

thanks Makingsounds :)
so one other quick question, level 1 Greivance or straight to level 2? as it's against a DOM.

Re: Face to Face sick meeting
BTW, I would treat this as a B&H Claim and let them decide whether to downgrade it to a grievance.
Ring the Independent B&H helpline on 08005874777 and the CWU line too on 08001071909

Re: Face to Face sick meeting
Manager is correct that the new procedure allows for manger to request a face to face interview in connection with the sick absence but NOT 1 HOUR from the sickness being reported.doorstepped wrote:a person in the DO I am in rang in sick yesterday morning at 05:00, the manager then rang him back at 06:00 asking him how he was and that he would like him to come into the office for a face to face sickness chat.

I think you are being very generous to this manager by following the grievance procedure and if manager is unable to slither out of making that 06.00 call then this is B&H as a perfect example and that is the line that you should take.

Re: Face to Face sick meeting
Manager will probably not deny making the 06.00 call but claim that his request to attend for an interview was misinterpreted by the employee as he/her was not referring that the attendance would be that day but should the absence be prolonged so may be difficult to prove.rehabron wrote:Manager is correct that the new procedure allows for manger to request a face to face interview in connection with the sick absence but NOT 1 HOUR from the sickness being reported.doorstepped wrote:a person in the DO I am in rang in sick yesterday morning at 05:00, the manager then rang him back at 06:00 asking him how he was and that he would like him to come into the office for a face to face sickness chat.

Re: Face to Face sick meeting
Did they actually attend a meeting?
The manager rings up and requests a meeting. The OPG refuses.
At the next resourcing meeting the rep brings up the agreed procedure on sick absence and contact protocol. It is all clearly minuted.
End of.
If this is an example of the endemic bullying and harassment in RM then some of you have led very sheltered lives.

The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

What a novel idea a minuted resource meeting.

A workmate had something similar resulting in a stage 2 grievance which has been in the hands of area rep for over a month.
He is not expecting to hear anything as anybody with any time in /knowledge who comes on this site knows that the union and management now piss in the same pot.

Even more novel, having a resource meeting in the first place.BoltonPostie wrote:LOL.clashcityrocker wrote:Did they actually attend a meeting?

A bit like WTLS. Both a myth within Royal Mail.
