Told a couple of weeks ago we'd have to do a packet count for this week,sheets were put out Monday,orderly queue formed outside the doms office for an explanation of how to fill it out,his reply "I DONT KNOW".Result packet count put off till they find out

We had packets, Specials, Tracked and Recorded's. No idea what we did with Internationals, just in the Specials column if they came with the Specials.

The thing I remember is, most people were exaggerating. I was baffled. 'make them think we are doing even more work'. Big mistake. 'You were averaging 65 a day before, now there's just 45 a day, you need more streets added' said the planner.

They must know how many Specials , Recorded's and Tracked items per round as they are on your PDA.
Why not just record how many packet bags of normal parcels you have per day and how many Yorks of large parcels per P/L round pairings.
Only problem is that one week can be so different to the next .
We get absolutely hammered on parcels on the 1st week of the month when everyone gets paid and less so a week before people get paid.

Do not guess what parcels are attendance calls and which are not before you go out, get an accurate record from how things went on delivery, letterbox sizes vary enormously!

Using number of parcel bags, number of sequenced/manual trays etc. is an awful way to judge a workload... Parcel sizes vary massively, sequenced trays can be anything up to ~400 letters per tray (where it is a mission to remove the first bundle of letters) and manual trays can be anything from paper thin postcards to chunky catalogs.

We didn't have PDA's at the time. We (normal, walking, part timers) didn't get them until the revision kicked in.

have to agree pegasus said 19 attendance calls per 500 calls they said 28 , we counted 48 ,guess what figures they used .

we had a planner who took off 2 of the zeros on the parcel count.......so it looked like the office didn't get many parcels only mail LOL,,,,1st run of the computer and we had massive walks,,,,,when the union got involved they realised the planners error LOL and the walk sizes had to drop

Spot on.Two years ago we counted our packets honestly but the planners wouldn't accept the figures.It has been a monumental.Balls up and we had two top bods down this week saying that a new revision is to be done.It seems they are fed up with the overtime being paid.
We won't hold our breath.

Its just managers documenting whatever they are documenting

except you are doing the leg work for them as usual. It goes round in a cycle, next thing its hazard cards, then its weighing all your pouches, then its another different form created for your door-to-doors, then its accidents on delivery posted on the noticeboard.

Its simply a job for managers to do when they are bored or something that makes them look good while you are out doing what it is necessary for the business (and something most of them would rather poke their own eyes first) - delivering...

We did this in our office several times and each time the results went missing! No use to man or beast these counts
