Reading all these topics
I probably only come on royamailchat about once a month so have a lot of catching up to do. I have just gone through most of the threads and most of it is sad and depressing. One thing springs to mind with all the bullying, harassment and unachievable workloads, why the f**k are we not on strike?

Well if you'd read the 2010 Agreement you would understand why the union are taking no action. You only have to read the missives dingo posts to realise what the union stance is and you and I are very low down on the list. The CWU are all about pleasing their masters these days and I don't mean the likes of you and I who actually pay themLounge Lizard wrote:- or why --- ---- is the CWU doing nothing that we're aware of ?redrobber wrote:I probably only come on royamailchat about once a month so have a lot of catching up to do. I think you are right I am convinced that the CWU in the short term at least are more interested in protecting their own jobs by pleasing management and paying lip service to our needs. I think it will come back to bite them as how much longer can we continue to put up with it and pay union subs. We pay the Billy Hayes and Dave Wards of this world but the likes of Divisional Reps are paid by Royal Mail and excused deliveries to "help" us in the DOs, RM could make their lives much harder so why rock the boat.

Shareholders first now. There is a duty to provide profits to pay dividends. So the workforce can lump it now,as we are constantly informed,we know where the exit is. Prepare for more pain. Head down, arse up as they say. Amongst other things

Re: Reading all these topics
The real problem is know how widespread the claims are ? Posters on this site are anonymous and therefore cannot be verified as factual or not.
Remember we have a local rep structure and Branch Structure and the local reps and Branch's are not saying that this bullying on deliveries is widespread. Certainly it happens in some offices that is not in doubt but how many of the 100 000 delivery staff are being bullied is hard to estimate as the level of grievances or bullying and harassment claims are low.
When the CWU wrote to members for reports on bullying just over 300 members responded. Peter Wall the HR and IR manager and Bob Gibson put out a statement which was sent out to all Branch's and Delivery Offices stating that no one can be asked to work beyond their time without remuneration. That there was no banking of hours and no swings and roundabouts. The only thing Royal Mail can request exceptionally is whether you agree the 30 mins flex.
Equally what is bullying ? Is it asking you to absorb within your normal duty times ? I have no time for bullying managers but sometimes the local office have to make a stand against the bully by standing together. If it is not raised to your area rep , your Divisional rep then how is the union going to know. When the CWU and Royal Mail reviewed the 20 offices under the national delivery review including surveying the employees on bullying only one office did some members report it as a problem.
Believe me if a London Rep or Branch reported this was happening it would be stopped or we would be balloting the office and Branch. That's has nothing to do with who pays our wages it because we believe its unacceptable.
Now the CWU have a real problem which clearly members on here don't seem to take into consideration is that in the areas where it is cheaper to deliver due to the high density of dwellings and the high percentage of traffic we are losing work to TNT and Amazon. In the areas where it is more expensive to deliver we are seeing work grow. The USO cannot survive if those circumstances continue. If the USO was to either end or be downgraded we would see a strike as Royal Mail would have to introduce complusory redundancies and not on MTSF terms.
So whilst Bullying and Harrassment is never acceptable , saving jobs is a key agenda item. These are huge challenges and the membership are all impacted on if we continue to see unfair end to end competition.

Is that the union have lost sight of the importance of dealing with the members issues and have become embroiled in the problems facing Royal Mail and are being used by Royal Mail to institute changes which in no measure helps the members, who actually finance this charade. So how about the "New" agreement and it's legal and binding assurances.dingo wrote:The real problem.

The level of grievances are low because nothing ever gets done about it.
How many times are these grievances dealt with properly and in the correct time frame?
It's no wonder people don't put them in or follow through with them because the system is so corrupt managers investigating managers?
Half the reps don't even know how to start an ET case for their members.
Let me tell you we had a visit off Bob Gibson and that Royal Mail Director Burgess and both got told in no uncertain terms that the biggest bully in the office was the DOM who by the way has lost two tribunal cases against him and yet is still in position...why is he still here? Because both Royal Mail and the CWU are big on bullshit, they think that by sending out a joint statement or jumping on the latest flavour of the month health concern from their ivory towers that everything is hunky dory.

Royal Mail managers.....about as popular as a t.urd in a swimming pool!
The DDA/Equality Act demands action,NOT words......adjustments NOT Occupational Health referrals.Case No:2505901/09
Royal Mail is an Equal Opportunities Employer..It discriminates against everybody.

Re: Reading all these topics
Dingo, ask yourself why many local reps are not reporting grievances. They are probably so fed up with the amount they have to deal with and the fact that Royal Mail fail to deal with any within the designated timescales, and lack of support from area and divisional.

Re: Reading all these topics
Yes, it does sometimes feel like doom and gloom at Royal Mail
Like today, walking round soaking wet for 4 hours in the pouring rain. There is a lot of discontent on the shop floor with staff under pressure as work flow changes i.e. more collapsing, overtime working, flexible starts etc etc. But we are very well paid compared to our competitors who pay their staff minimum wage and have zero hour contracts, so what really would we be striking for?? The CWU main objective is quite clear, and that is to keep people in decent paid jobs.
Also, its been 12 months post flotation and the business is still very healthy; apparently it made an operating profit of £671 million. Not bad considering that TNT are still out picking the cherries. However, Im sure that Royal Mail WILL continue to use the threat of losing the USO as a 'stick to beat us to death with' though. Maybe its a game-changer, maybe its not. Im tired of all the cliches as they will use any excuse to modernise anyway, even if involving MPs and calling for a review of Ofcom turns up trumps.
Its well known that the letters and parcels business have been under pressure for years, but if its really that bad, why are so many competitors trying to muscle into the market so aggressively?

On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

We are told "saving jobs is a key agenda item", yes but NOT to the extent that anything goes.
And a few more years with it continuing like recent months and our jobs won't be worth saving.

Re: Reading all these topics
Is it an actual fact that TNT pay minimum wage to delivery staff? There was a post on here yesterday where an ex-colleague was waiting for a start date with TNT and the pay was £10 per hour. I'd like to know for definite either way, postslippete wrote:Yes, it does sometimes feel like doom and gloom at Royal Mail

ihatedogs wrote:It's noticeable to me that the majority of b & h is happening in DO's. If you're in processing then you simply work your hours, have your full breaks and go home at your finish time. Collections/network drivers have their breaks built in to their duties & are simply left to get on with their work.
Contrast this with the average D.O. where Postie's are routinely harrassed from the moment they sign in & are questioned about everything. I' ve seen posties asked why they are using the toilet during IPS time ( I know of one Dom who actually locked the toilets, causing a walkout & resulting in him getting a real bollocking off his gaffer.) Duties are routinely too big but you're questioned if you cannot complete/lapse and booking time off is a nightmare.
Just to add, there is no criticism of my fellow Postie's here, processing & collections is how the workforce should be treated, but the b & h in deliveries shows the true face of a privatised company more interested in their bank balance than the welfare of the people providing the profits.
It dose not matter if you work in a MC or a DO ect you start on time (not coming in early) take your break and go home at your finish time. End of
