bullying and harassment / grievance rude managers

Post by 11aaa222 »

Hi all, wondering if any union rep or manger can help and advise , or someone that has been through similar concerns and situations.

Basically there is a really nasty, rude and obnoxious manger currently working in our mail centre he treats everyone and I feel me in particular with quite a nasty tone and with no dignity and respect for members of staff who he talks down to.

Just wondering how to approach this? had just about enough of his attitude and put up with it for many years, can he possibly get in trouble for his rude and very arrogant and ignorant attitude ? or is not worth pursing this comaplint.

Also would it come under bullying and harassment or a grievance ?

after seeking advice from a fellow colleague who is also a manger at another office tells me that when u make formal grievances against managers this reflects well on the accused as loads of these types of complaints suggest this particular manager is 'challanging members of staff' and the higher up mangers dealing with the case - the shift manager or mail centre manger would see this as good thing and putting in complaints against mangers would in actual fact be 'biging them up' as they want their line mangers challenging opg's and postman. just want your thoughts on this?

any advice welocme from reps or managers and opgs that have been through the same thing or have any knoledge or insight.

Well part of your thinking in your posting is correct dependant on the nature of the grievance.
Management would expect that at some time a manger say for instance in charge of 50 staff would have a grievance lodged against him/her as it is virtually impossible to keep everyone happy with there workload. RM managers are trained to get the utmost from their staff which in due course would result in someone lodging a grievance and then higher authority would agree that they are doing their job to their expectations.
However if you had several grievances being lodged against the same manger then this could be interpreted as being unproductive in relation to the business and these grievances would be investigated more thoroughly than an individual grievance would.
The more grievances the better chance .

Are you alone in your opinion or are others also thinking he oversteps the marks?

well to be honest he regularly upsets a lot of people, and is not a very popular guy.... not many people have a good word to say about him.... he is a real nasty piece of work...

just wondering whether a formal complaint would get me anywhere whether it is worth all the hassle and bother?
to be honest with u a lot of his own fellow managers do not even like him, however at the end of the day they all piss in the same pot unfortunately and would not get involved.

I know for a fact there a lot of moans and groans about him to his boss and the cwu, however most people have a habit of whining and whether these result in official written complains I highly doubt although there may have been a few... but I am at a point he really is starting to get on my nerves and becoming very irritating with his demanor its like we are all beneath him,

The last thing I would want to do is to put in a comaplint which in turn would make him look good to his superiors which I have been advised by someone and will result in a 'well done' for him

please advice!!!

Get all the ones who are disenchanted by his attitude to sign a complaint/petition/grievance so that you are not isolated and get the unit rep to present it to the DOM.

How ironic. I'm going on a training course this Friday with my DOM, called Together For Growth and its entire aim is to avoid situations like this and avoid putting in grievance's.
The course is being rolled out over the entire country.

I was also in a meeting last Friday to explain how the course will be run, its aims and to highlight that no excuse will be accepted for not turning up. It was also highlighted that this course should also include line managers and not just DOM's, the reply back was that ALL line managers will also receive the training.

So, my advice is to go to your DOM and tell him about the Together For Growth program, his reply should be a interesting one !!

I'm supposed to be going on this next week, but I don't think I will after reading the bumpf RM have sent me. From my reading of said bumpf is that they want reps to be managers in disguise, I don't believe I'm there to support either RM or their managers.

A manager in my mc was told to pack her bags a few years back. What happened was over 50% of mc signed a petition against her. The petition was not handed in to the shift manager it was sent to Sheffield who must have phoned the mc.
