Removal of 4 day rota for p/t's
Our office had some 4 days per week duties put in for the part time staff when the revision took place. The DOM is saying they will be taken out and the part time staff will have to go back to a 5 day week. None of the part timers want this, can the DOM just push it through anyway?

Their contracts of employment would only show their contracted hours and not nominated days so the business can extend from 4 to 5 days provided it does not exceed the contracted hours.Rumple wrote:Our office had some 4 days per week duties put in for the part time staff when the revision took place. The other possibility is if the p/t have made personal arrangements when on a 4 day week for eg. child care, nursery/school times than they would have to advise DOM that their new duty times interfere with their domestic arrangements and ask for flexible working.

And by any chance are their starting times moving to 8.30-9.30 because `all the IPS will be done and their rounds prepped ready to bag-up`?

Royal Mail managers.....about as popular as a t.urd in a swimming pool!
The DDA/Equality Act demands action,NOT words......adjustments NOT Occupational Health referrals.Case No:2505901/09
Royal Mail is an Equal Opportunities Employer..It discriminates against everybody.

Not without going through certain steps, if he has suggested doing the change then I would recommend getting your rep to put in a stage 1 disagreement and insist on the status quo until the full ir process has been completed

But wouldn't this affect the whole office as their day offs would change therefore messing up all the day off covers etc.

Re: Removal of 4 day rota for p/t's
this is happening in our office as well. It's going to affect a number of staff who use their days off for child care. the flexible working forms are going in but people keep saying the DOM will just ignore them.....what I'm wondering is....If Royal mail have accommodated people in our office on flexible working in the past, hasn't this set a precedent? Are they discriminating against us now by saying that child care has no bearing on their decision?

The question is:
Do they have sufficient work to justify the 4 day week?

The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Similar thing happening locally to me, rest day cover duties moving from 3 to 4 day weeks because there is insufficient indoor work.
The other option is to cut full time duties down to part time. Not an acceptable option for many reasons.
It's a rock and a hard place for the people concerned.

Overtime is optional, not compulsory.mattycash wrote:There is a 4 day 22 & half hour walk up on the board in our office, Monday Tuesday Friday Saturday which gets you 1 in 4 Saturday's off, we've been told they expect you to come in on O/T Wednesday & Thursday if needed or desperate?
