Annual leave allocation date

Post by lynney666 »

Is it still correct that annual leave should be sorted and allocated by the end of October?
Our office doesn't want the forms back till the end of November so we'll be lucky if we know our leave by Christmas, so if I book my flights in early November, do Royal Mail have to honor my booking and allow my leave?

There's clearly no chance of it being completed by the end of October so do you think if I book my flights they will have to honor what I've booked?

They won't need to honour what you booked unfortunately. All you can really do is pressure them go follow the way forward agreement and get the holidays sorted out sooner

It's a crazy system. One year for us it wasn't even started until the following feb, just finished in time for the first week in April!

They aren't obliged to honour any time you've booked off while waiting for them to sort it - don't book anything yet unless you are extremely confident of being able to swap for it. It could work in your favour tho - I had one of those first few weeks in the spring just weeks after the allocation was sorted and we got a decent last-minute booking away, was a gamble tho.

Put pressure on your rep or contact the Area Rep.
If they have not completed by the end of October take a grievance out as the business has not followed the agreed process.
