And how can "the expected inpact from a new tnt office delivering mail and d2ds hits us bad" when a Royal Mail spokesman on Radio 4 yesterday, on the importance of parcels, dismissed the letters business as "nobody sends a letter anymore".

wonder how much of a buy down you'd get for say, 15/20 years service.

£65 less per week wages, make up half, if not more of that in overtime if you want.

Even better, take the couple of grand they offer, then leave the job

We're in the south east and our managers have been asking people if they want vr. They want 4 or 5 people to leave by the end of December.

The thing that shocked me is the fact we only have about 35 to 40 people in our office, 25 of them want to leave!.

This would appear to be scaremongering.
TNT will impact on your duties/staffing levels but such drastic action as you are describing hasn't been taken in other cities where TNT/Whistl are already delivering.

I know a lad who works in Mcr,he's on zero hours/minimum wage & he's been there over 12-months.

For all we say about RM,TNT sound like an absolute nightmare to work for,he told me that a few weeks back he was late for work for the very first time. He was late in by 6 minutes but in that time his hours had been allocated to somebody else & he was sent home without pay.

Also I saw up on facebook earlier that he's had a new ID card allocated,his name & security number but some other buggers photo.

From all he tells me they sound like an utter shambles of a company.

I'm afraid it's true and it's not just Birmingham but the Wv/Ws/Dy postcodes who will all receive a letter next week saying that a preference excercise is underway and asking for upto 20% of the workforce if they want VRs ,buy downs or transfers. The whole preference exercise will only take 3 weeks to finish and the list of volunteers will be utilised when TNT start direct delivery. Sad times ahead with potentially hundreds leaving the business

Every area has a non binding ( that is the key words ) preference exercise. VRs can only be agreed and signed off if there is a union agreement under the IR framework for a reduction of jobs. The CWU nationally are close to a joint statement which deals with the impact of competition which is frightening as one moment an office has the work and next moment it is gone and it is on average 20% of sequencing Mail .

Your offices productivity drops as the work goes which is the main reason why the CWU cannot achieve an incentive scheme as normally incentives are paid for increased productivity and not for worsening performance. However there is a debate which says what should be the main priority safeguarding jobs or fighting for an incentive scheme which will only deliver if you increase productivity and to do that you need the work which TNT has just taken.
