Prep testing
My manager says that people in our delivery office are under performing in their prep & is testing them ,is there any agreed rate which we should be sorting at & if we fall below that rate what actions can he take .Our rep says that there is no agreed rate & if the manager feels we are not quick enough then its his job to put things in place to improve our prep, like coaching.

Re: Prep testing
Your rep is right - there is nothing except the one minute test.
Even if your DOM arranges coaching (though I don't know what form that would actually take) there is nothing to suggest it needs to lead to any improvement.
I think performance standards will be next years big thing.

Re: Prep testing
25 letters a minute into an empty frame is the agreed standard. in all honesty it's a piece of cake to achieve but I always do 24 just to annoy them. If any manager says its 31 a minute with css mail then tell them you want that in writing cause it don't exist.

Re: Prep testing
Cannot really test a p/t who is on a double prep van share, because when we get in at our start time most of the walk should be prepped, also we don't have porters at our DO.

We have been told it's a national agreement that 27 per min on ips and 37 on sequence mail into your frame also 18 per min on packets
Our best pkt sorters can only manage 15/16 so how do you improve that. How do you teach someone to read faster????

Re: Prep testing
Ask the DOM if he would mind you timing him, in order that you can benefit from his obvious experience and techniques.

Re: Prep testing
What about reserves who go to an office which is new to them and there is no sequenced mail? I can only achieve about five letters an hour is there a recognised figure for this scenario?Captain Scarlet wrote:We have been told it's a national agreement that 27 per min on ips and 37 on sequence mail into your frame also 18 per min on packetsOur best pkt sorters can only manage 15/16 so how do you improve that.
