management have taken away the packets and tracked items and given them to the walks. The workload between the drivers is getting less and less and it is inevitable drives will be removed, is it reasonable for managers to re-train drivers to do walks. They are resisting this but their workload sees them finishing very early every day, causing resentment with the other delivery staff. It is an obvious ploy to create a divide between the workforce but the drivers have brought it on themselves by allowing their workload be given to other staff, they were happy to give it up and do less work but its backfired on them and now they want to fight it. Any thoughts?

I'm not sure how many bulk delivery drivers we used to have pre modernisation because for the last 7 or 8 years they have been on the decline but I would imagine, including the afternoon packet duties, about 12 - 15 depending on how far back you go - there is only 4 left and moves afoot to remove two of those - so are they going to win the fight - not a cat in hells chance, because if the work isn't there then neither is the duty.

So that will be once down the path with the packet, once down the path with the card for the delivered packet that has been left with a neighbour that you have already been to with mail and then maybe a repeat performance with a special delivery by the driving half of the van share - that should save a bit of time
