Buddy Up System

This is being suggested in our delivery office to replace seniorority for a resign of duties.
ie: For Park & Loop.. Someone with 25years in pairs up with his mate who has 9 years....add them together and divide by 2=. 17.
So this creates a new list in the office.
I'm dead against this as is the local rep,but the DOM has initiated a 'vote' in the office for it.
Has anyone else come up against this?

So the Dom has decided the pairings but how does he decide which pairings do which walks, this shouldn't happen and as far as I'm aware never happened in any park and loop revision.

The DOM doesn't decide, he's effectively creating a new seniorority list using this system !!!

Tell your rep to put in a disagreement and call CWU Wimbledon and speak to Bob Gibson or anyone else in his department asap as this is not in any National Agreement. Also tell your rep to inform his area rep asap

Well I didn't pay much attention at the time but that is exactly how the P&L was decided in our office. Two people paired up and their accumulative service was divided by 2 and they picked a duty in seniority order using that figure. I know it was agreed but it was only for park and loop all the duties not P&L was chosen in seniority order except for DDA and specialist roles and duties which hadn't been affected.

That's no good what if you don't get on with the person your paired with.
Or one of you is a lot quicker than the other this could cause more problems.

I am assuming that the staff pick who they want to work with? Would be madness otherwise.

If someone is high on seniority they could pair themselves with someone similar - or someone newer who they like.

Trouble is (as would be the case in our DO), there could be someone near the top of seniority who nobody wants to work with so is paired with a new starter (being the only one left!). There seniority is therefore halved in effect through no choice of their own.

That is precisely the way it was. If someone wanted a good delivery they would ally themselves with equal high seniority and people with little seniority would try to get a higher seniority partner. Some of the P&L pairs have lasted years and some have fallen by the wayside.
