more than likely physio treatment to see how he responds and a rehabilitation course if there is one ongoing throughout your area. done through oh assist.

The arthritis is permanent so what would the rehab entail?

Can't see what rehab can do for an arthritic knee to be honest.
They'll probably be better off going for a knee op, a replacement one that is, and that's dependent on the persons age too.

On the arthritis - he really needs to be guided by his GP especially with regard to treatment and rehab.

As to work, Arthritis is recognised under the Equality Act, so he needs to get OH Assist involved and the H&S part of the CWU. The equality act means that Royal Mail may have to take reasonable steps to take his condition into account.

Of course reasonable steps could mean anything and it all depends on the severity of his diagnosis, and if there are any reasonable steps RM can take. This may mean re-deployment, adjustment of duty or transfer, but as I say it all depends on his particular case and without breaking his rights under medical confidentiality and data protection not to mention medical competence, RMC members can only give general guidance.
