grievance

Post by char1ie »

Yesterday I informed my line manager that because I had 28 oversized parcels included with the duty that I was covering & that I would not have time to deliver the parcels. He said that the amount of parcels equated to 2 hours work & that I am the only person that fails that round & that everyone else completes that round with no issues. He gave me the impression that I was expected to deliver the oversized parcels, even if it took me an additional 2 hours.
In the end he said to leave the parcels behind, but he was clearly not happy.
I found out later in the day that 2 days previous that the people covering the same round cut off 2 loops (1h 30 mins) plus the oversized parcels that went with those loops.
The people that cut off were not challenged or subjected to what I was.
So the line manager has lied in saying that I am the only person to not complete that round & that I was treated differently to others that also failed to complete just 2 days previous
He humiliated me in front of my colleagues & has gone against the dignity & respect guidelines & anti bullying policy. Tomorrow I will be handing in my grievance.

This is the answer given in the courier magazine when the question over how long are we given to deliver a parcel:
Jean-Philip Pritchard, delivery systems integration manager, replies:
There is no single set time allocated to the delivery of a parcel. This will vary depending on whether it’s a Signed For
item or not, whether a PDA is used, the item size, the equipment used and whether it’s delivered as part of a residential, bulk or dedicated parcel route.

Well if this is the case how can managers insist that a duty is possible within the time when there is no set time for the delivery of parcels and parcels are now increased beyond expectation. The union have not taken the bull by the horns and have reneged on the delivery members terms and conditions by totally ignoring the bullying and harassment being used as a management tool.

The union not trying to enforce the groundbreaking national agreement they so carefully negotiated on our behalf? ....well I never...

It says there is no SINGLE set time.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

The amount of parcels & the agreed time allowed to deliver them is not the main issue. Its what lead the Line manager in questioning my performance, when others had the same problem just 2 days previous. Their performance was not questioned but mine was & the lie that I am the only person who ever cuts off that round.

Actually Charlie that IS the main issue. The fact that your ability was questioned publicly has already been dealt with by the institution of the grievance. The larger issue involves all delivery officers, the delivery allowance which is now unspecified and the deliver to neighbour which is also unspecified and gives rise to the non completion of a delivery or the booking of excess without the necessity for the inquisition. :cuppa

Waste of time, they will just side with the manager everytime.
You might as well send in some toilet roll with a big fat turd in it as they end up in the same place. :cuppa
Royal Mail managers.....about as popular as a t.urd in a swimming pool!
The DDA/Equality Act demands action,NOT words......adjustments NOT Occupational Health referrals.Case No:2505901/09
Royal Mail is an Equal Opportunities Employer..It discriminates against everybody.

I am expecting it to be ripped up in front of me. If I don't challenge this then I will forever be a managers bitch. Our DO is currently under investigation for missing grievance statements & bullying & harassment.

Charlie, read the new grievance procedures and time scales. If you fail to get a response within the specified time limits, issue a new grievance on the basis that Royal Mail have not complied with their procedures, send a copy to Moya Greene, Copy to your DSM, copy to Dave Ward, copy to Local Union Rep, and watch the sh.t hit the proverbial fan.

I cannot understand why some (if not all) lie about things that the postie can find out the truth eventually or immediately...

You are right to put in a grievance because the manager is picking on you for whatever reasons or he feels he can get away with treating you differently and unfairly to some others in the office.

This sort of thing is common and yet you have some posters here that will side with some colleagues who are work-shy and dump other posties in a mess by not doing the job properly. It happens so often when a work is being covered on OT or where managers are out delivering - they tend to leave the packets...

That is not the case here but there are too many here that will just say 'just work your time' and don't bother with what others are doing...

Why Should I come in early to do my job because others do Why should I work unpaid overtime because others do Why should I not have a meal relief because others don't! You sound as you have some personal gain in this WHY!

Could I suggest re-reading the post you quoted and looking at the context it was posted in.

Chris is not advocating unpaid overtime, not taking meal reliefs or early starts. Actually the polar opposite, he is advocating taking action to stop people being harassed and bullied by managers because they are not doing it. Further, he is berating people who do say ignore it.
