longs and shorts
hi weve been told on Tuesday by area manager at wtl that as from next week we will be doing longs and shorts , does this sound right without any input . we was told we would have a ballot on this 3 weeks ago by the area rep but nothing, mon 6.45-14.33 , tues 7.00-13.30 , wed, thur, fri, 6.30-14.50 , sat 6.45-14.30 , how can they just throw this in theres loads with child care issues. oh with the Tuesday you only get a 30 min relief. so its another agreement where the members lose out.

Re: longs and shorts
quote the way forward agreement, and as such if duties are changing by more than 30 mins you are all displaced and as such there needs to be a resign. then all the individuals with child care issues ect can apply for flexible working. if nothing else it will piss off said manager, and if your rep takes it through the I/r framework the status quo should remain until it is resolved.

Re: longs and shorts
the problem is weve been doing p&l for about 5 years now which triggered a full office repick then and our times was 6.42 - 14.30 with 40mins m/r since then , I cant understand there way of thinking , its just going to cause more duties to fail , no collapse as you wont have time but to be honest I don't give a s**t about that , im more disappointed by the way its been done in the back door .silly suffolk wrote:quote the way forward agreement, and as such if duties are changing by more than 30 mins you are all displaced and as such there needs to be a resign. then all the individuals with child care issues ect can apply for flexible working. if nothing else it will piss off said manager, and if your rep takes it through the I/r framework the status quo should remain until it is resolved.

Re: longs and shorts
We did vote longs and shorts in a year ago.It works quite well on the whole.
We start at 6.15 every day and finish earlier Mon,Tues and Sats and later on Weds,Thurs and Fri's.
Our finish time on Saturdays is 13.30 which isn't too bad, most are back by 12.30 and are allowed to go straight home from what I hear,I always get back more or less dead on time as I have my m/r out on delivery.

Re: longs and shorts
get your rep to lodge a stage 1 disagreement about the change ASAP and insist on the status quo until the IR process is followed through all the stages to the end

If it does go through, check the times they are giving FT add up to no more than a 39 contract hour week, some in our place discovered they were being contracted for 39hrs 10/15mins and only getting 39 hours pay... After doing these shifts for ~2 years!

Re: longs and shorts
With the parcel network opening up over the weekend I can't see any logic in L&S anymore as Mon/Tues will become heavier and Wed/Thurs lighter.

Re: longs and shorts
I would go higher and seek external help i.e. Citizens Advice Bureau . I am in a legally binding contract with my child minder and cannot just change the specified hours without 6 weeks notice. Even then it is subject to availability and I may be forced to seek childcare elsewhere (i.e. much more expensive nursery - and less desirable in my book)
My child minder has bills to pay and a quota of the number of children she can have. If I collect my kids any later she would have too many children when she makes her school pickup and any earlier would cost her money she can't make back elsewhere.
Contact the CAB then put it into writing - to your DOM, your area manager and to Royal Mail HR explaining that situation.
