Does a CWU member have the right to legal advise

Can anyone tell me if I am entitled to legal advice through the CWU, if so can I request to speak to a lawyer myself or does the union have to contact the layers on my behalf?

I am asking this because my branch security and I disagree on a legal matter and I want to find out if I am right or not from a legal perspective.

The matter refers to suspension. I believe my branch secretary's understanding is based on outdated case precedence , I have referred him to a more recent case precedence but he does not value my opinion.

Why not contact your area rep and ask their advice ?

I have been suspended while I am off work sick with stress and anxiety. I was suspended about an hour after my dad took my sick note in from my doctor sataing I was not fit for work. I do not believe I should have been suspended, I believe suspension should be a last resort and I believe suspending me was a knee jerk reaction by my manager. I believe suspending me has caused me more stress and that Employee Health Service advise had been taken, before they took suspensory action.

All I want to know is if I can get legal advise through the CWU from their lawyers or do I have to pay for legal advise from my own lawyer!!!!!!

Try cab etc

As well as exhausting chain of command

Most lawyers/solicitors will give you a free first interview.

Firstly
If your currently experiencing stress/anxiety symptoms

Take a moment...maybe call breathing space or similar?

Then write a summary
Include all main points and chain of events leading to suspension

After that

Try...and its hard...to look at it from the outside...be objective

If you cannot achieve resolution amicably then suit up and lawyer up

If there were no other circumstances then its major harsh

The freephone number for Unionline on 0300 333 0303 can also be used to obtain legal advice on other non work related issues. Additionally, members will also be able to get advice on employment law procedures. This is a new service. However, this will not include assessing the merits of any claim.

When using these new services, members will be required to provide their membership number.
