Monitoring us via PDA

Our DOM has found a new gadget and is sat back in the office monitoring our delivery progress via the PDA. We all got individual text messages from our DOM "Paul, you just N/A ed three tracked items.. Go back and redeliver them to a neighbour." Or to the guy who has got rid of all tracked and recorded "Mike, you must attempt to deliver all parcels and packets first time. Deliver to a neighbour."

Why has the DOM got all this spare time and should the DOM be doing this ?

Just suspend comms and your DOM won't have live updates of what you're up to. Simples.

It won't last it's just the latest initative from above.

He wont be able to track where you are,,, they can see where you were when you scanned, and the reason for failure that's all

They can track you! Everytime you scan something the PDA lets Big Brother know your exact co-ordinates to within about 10 metres. If your manager is a bit computer friendly s/he know can convert this into a geographical location on Google maps.

he has obviously found the user manual for blackbay, he can send a text message to any pda, its not new has been around since the pda's were rolled out, just not many DOMs know how to use it,

Watch out, if he has figured out how to send text to you, it wont be long till he figures out how to tell what time you signed off the PDA at

My reply would be i do not consider leaving the parcel with a neighbour a safe option

We have been pulled up regarding what time we signed off our PDA. One bloke was pulled into the office because he signed off before he should have started his overtime - one in the face for the DOM because it is well known that the delivery gets few Recordeds and the person who preps it always leaves them out so no signatures required and no PDA required.

We have also all been threatened with Conduct if we remove the batteries from the PDA. Not sure why, I think people who had finished but didn't come back to the office were doing it. Anyway, I only ever log off on time now and if I finish early I reset the PDA (hold power button until blue light comes on) and it doesn't seem to register a log-out time.

Blackbay doesnt actually tell you a sign off time, i wont say on here how to figure out when it was actually done, but resetting the pda or removing the battery will not hide the sign off time(or time you done that to the pda)

As for logging off and removing the battery, I often have to log in at random times, without having logged off. Presumably the PDA reset itself somehow. Also,
sometimes the only way to get the bugger to work again is to pull the battery out.

If I have a tracked that doesn't need a signature, I might well scan it in the van then leave the PDA in the van. When I click 'delivered' or 'safeplace' I might well have driven a few hundred yards, if not more, so the location won't be accurate at all.

They can tell where you were when you scan an item, turning off the coms won't make any difference as to the DOMs knowing where you are
