Specialised Job Descriptions
According to the Way Forward Agreement ........
15.6 The specific jobs that require specialist skills and which will be subject to selection are:
Resourcing Unit (Bookroom);
DOM Support;
Traffic Office;
Enquiry/Callers’ Office;
Major Customer Collection drivers
(to be jointly defined at National level):
Benefits Agency/Customer Mailroom;
Leadership roles (formerly PHG ‘A’);
Heavy Goods Vehicle Driving (HGV);
Postbus (PSV);
VCS/MAA;
IMP/MTT;
Advanced TPM;
Non-school training
15.7 All specialist jobs will have consistent job descriptions, which will identify the specialist capabilities and which will be standard throughout Royal Mail.
Does anyone know where i can get a copy of these 'job descriptions and their capabilities'.
Surely if they were to be standardised there must be a documnet detailing this.
Also, why is the RLE duty no longer considered to be a specialised duty?

Re: Specialised Job Descriptions
Yeah thank's for that - not really what the thread is about though !
I'm really only interested in the Callers and Dom Support duties.
Plus i'd like to know what duties i now cover in my now 'non specialised' role in the RLE?

Re: Specialised Job Descriptions
Three years ago I had to put in an application for the Callers Office duty. I had been performing the duty on a temporary basis for just under a year. This is what I considered to be the requirements for the position at the time:
• Receipt & allocation of special deliveries
• Allocation of tracked items
• Customer service skills
• General IT knowledge (including advanced features of Microsoft Office suite)
• Managing CLEO for redeliveries and customer enquiries
• Timely submissions of daily and weekly reports
• Input to Resource Control System
• Input to Business Reply System
• Management of PO boxes
• Maintaining levels of stationery
• Management of surcharge and custom items
• Cash handling
• Ability to perform under pressure
• Communications with Third Parties regarding facilities maintenance
• Delivery Office security
• Person In Charge (PIC) role when the Delivery Office Manager is not on site
• Forwarding missorts & RTS mail to the Mail Centre meeting the required standard
• Updating Redirection & Keepsafe logs
In the last 6 months I have also been inputting the Overtime hours into PSP.

Re: Specialised Job Descriptions
I would say most of those duties are either DOM Support, manager or RLE tasks and not Callers at all.

Re: Specialised Job Descriptions
I think that the RLE/Callers Office/Dom Support requirements vary from office to office.
I work in a small DO with 23 duties and I perform all of the above tasks. A larger DO would probably need more staff to cover the responsibilities.

Re: Specialised Job Descriptions
Hence the reason i ask for the job description.
If these rolls are standardised, then there must be a detailed job description in existence.
Yet nobody seems to know where these details are listed?

Re: Specialised Job Descriptions
The RLE has never been a specialist role. I thought it strange when I started doing it several years ago but it isn't. It was a PHG role and as such there would have to have been some weeding out process due to the potential for a supervisory capacity but as far as I know there is no set routine. Some RLE staff are sent out on delivery, at other times deads, missorts, prepping the yorks for collection later in the day. In this present climate I'm surprised the brush hasn't been included.

Re: Specialised Job Descriptions
Indeed my duty in the RLE seems to involve more stuff now than it ever did.
My main concern for asking for the job descriptions is that whispers have been heard from the DOM as to changing parts of both the Callers duty and DOM Support.
From just what's been posted in earlier threads it would appear as if the DOM Support is an abused role already, with many Managers tasks being done.
The supposed idea we have heard involves the Callers office being covered by management in order to allow time for delivery.

Re: Specialised Job Descriptions
On an almost daily baisis we have managers going out in vans on delivery to clear lapsed walks that regular delivery staff refuse to do and go home early !!
I'm talking about staff actually making as much as 2 hours a day and going home.
The managers then use their vans to clear the delivery.
We have about 4 walks a day thrown off by managers.
The missorts and dead letters are all done by management.
Our local rep says nothing as it means we all get out on delivery at a reasonable time - usually about 9am - office clear by 10am at the latest.
Our rep takes a bike out in the back of his shared van so that he doesn't even need to come back to the office and can't then be even asked to take out some lapsing.
I get into the office at 6.30 every day to find about 12 staff already having thrown off most of the packets and prepping their walks - all on an hours paid O/T.
You couldn't make it all up but having voiced concerns to our local and area rep and also mentioned some of these points at a grievance hearing up to level 3, nothing is done and so the threat of the callers duty incorporating some delivery does not come as a shock.

Re: Specialised Job Descriptions
So nearly 500 views and nobody actually knows where to find this magical document that details the job descriptions.
I also emailed Union HQ, nearly 2 weeks ago...still nothing.
Pretty much tells me all i need to know there then.
