Duty Tested
Last week i had my duty tested from start to finish,i think the dom has been thinking of adding to my duty as other duties around me are failing BADLY!!
Although the runners still finish early AND the overtime folkes are still allowed to do as they wish!!!
Fine i thought bring it on,i start when i should,i use a lwt, sometimes i fail sometimes i don't,i thought i had nothing to fear.
as far as i'm concerned the day went well.
This morning he called me in to tell me i was slow,he is now considering adding extra to my duty,i could hardly contain my anger,i was furious.
I have been good enough for this job for over 25 years,i am over 50 but i have seen other posties walking and i think i'm around the same.
I don't think i can go any faster,my pace is good enough to get me around without killing myself.
I have searched on this forum about walk speeds but nothing seems to be official.
Can anyone clarify if there is anything OR any official agreement on walking speeds
What can the dom do if i do not go any faster, how can he prove i was slow ETC ETC
i would like to arm myself with some information before i go any further.
Thanks to anyone who replies.

Re: Duty Tested
DOM is trying to apply pressure to you so you panic and run, stay calm and keep working your hours. It's only stress if you let them get to you, don't get angry.Don't get into arguments about walking speeds.Delivery Donkey wrote:Last week i had my duty tested from start to finish,i think the dom has been thinking of adding to my duty as other duties around me are failing BADLY!!

Tell him you don't care want he thinks and he can add as much as he wants onto your duty, as long as you walk at a fast pace for you don't take the piss that's all that matters.Wait for him to say this is a performance issue.Your answer is ok how you going to up my performance through training
I went through what your going through and got stuff taken of my walk as I stuck to my guns.

Re: Duty Tested
Isn't this the normal in Royal Fail land?
They do this in my office, their are only a handful using the LWT even though are office was one of the first to deploy the vans in 2010. All the office are supposed to use them but they still run around with the bags making any excuse NOT to use them "we can't use them it is hilly" " we can't use them as it isn't safe to deliver here" "if I use them I will miss the footy
"
They have now even took half of the LWT away and deployed them to another office!
When the few who use them in ours come back at their finishing times and DON'T do lapsing at all they are bullied by management coming out with shite statements like the original poster of "you are too slow" "your not doing the indoor work quick enough" etc etc
One of the guys who I know has had his duty tested 3 times...knowbody else in the office has been.
The annoying thing is the morons whine and bleat about doing more lapsing and yet are that intent on running around that a good portion of the office is back in some cases 2 hours before their finish times, management have been pulled up on this and just come out with" Well you can't penalise them for doing the job" no but you penalise the guys doing the job as is set out in the Safe System of Working.
Anyhow Mr Donkey(lol) the planners are in here at the moment and he says that although you hear 4mph banded about in the media and stuff it is actually set at 2.6 slightly less for when people are doing gradients, personally I think he's might be right but you can bet your ass they put in 4 mph in the duty builder, corrupt twats.
Also if he thinks your too slow already what is the point of putting even more on your duty...that's just fookin barmy!

There is no nationally agreed prep test on a duty frame.worktotime wrote:hi has he tested your prep etc indoors ? and who did he test the outdoor side with ?Delivery Donkey wrote:Last week i had my duty tested from start to finish,i think the dom has been thinking of adding to my duty as other duties around me are failing BADLY!!

The dom,did both indoor and outdoor,he didn't want me to do my hours sorting, he didn't want me to do that days worth of d2d's,he asked me not to have my break before i went out and have it at the end as a favour for the day, he said he would calculate it all in later,i fell for it all hook line and sinker.

General Mannerheim sounds like our office to a tee, when i asked the dom about the runners and the o/t people he said they were efficient,i nearly gagged!!
As for putting more on me,no it doesn't make sense but common sense has no place in R/M!!
cyrus, thanks for that, just intend to keep my head down and keep going,i'll see what the idiot comes up with next.

If the people who the managers claim to be 'effecient' were really the superstars that they are made out to be,then SURELY they'd be able to do the job, just as well, using the correct equipment?
“Shorts,in this weather?!”
“If they’re bills I don’t want ‘em!”
“What’s she been ordering now?”

Re: Duty Tested
4mph is the walking speed between delivery points, 2.6mph is the overall speed when all the stops are added in.
I've been using Map My Walk (an app for iPhone) for months now and I'm hitting that figure or just above so I know I'm going at the correct speed.

Re: Duty Tested
As already suggested something doesn't make sense...
If he thought you were too slow WHY would he make your delivery bigger?? And if he forgot to add your meal relief on; thats his mistake!!
Also, what do you mean by fail?? Do you mean that you are claiming delivery excess because you have worked past your normal time??
It was in the media a while ago about royal mail wanting posties to walk at a certain speed but its useless because everyone walks at different speeds. I mean how can you expect a 60 year old to keep pace with a guy in his early twenties. Sure, we are all paid the same to do the job but many of us are feeling the fatigue, especially with extra lapsing, regardless of whatever time we finish!!
We have a guy in our office who suffers a heart condition and he generally doesn't do any of the lapsing every day, but still keeps to his own pace and finishes in his own time. Some of the guys may moan that he never takes any extra, but then again, he works to his time...so what is everyone else's problem???
As long as you do your job properly, and don't abuse the time you spend doing your loops, then there is very little your DOM can do. As he has already made your delivery harder, well its going to take you longer to deliver, right?? Any decent union guy would agree with me. When we have had guys who would take their time on delivery (and i don't mean any disrespect to you by this) they either:
1. Delivered on their own (because everyone else did not want to work with them)
2. Got put in the callers office dealing with customers (i mean you have given royal mail over 25 years service for god's sake!) and its not your fault that the jobs changed...

Re: Duty Tested
The whole revision has been a complete disaster. People ignore health and safety and run around in the hope of finishing early. All that happens is we end up with more lapsing, and the people doing the job properly get the grief. DOM's seem to be well trained in lying to and manipulating staff to get the job done. This it seems is the new RM way of doing things. Get your union rep involved asap and if he/she is not interested or your office doesn't have one go to the area rep.

Re: Duty Tested
Most walks I've done I would say 4 m.p.h is just not achievable. Most people achieve a 4 m.p.h optimum walking speed after a good 10 or so paces. Quite a lot of gaps between delivery points are about 10 paces or a lot less so at no point would you ever get up to optimum speed. Would explain why some duties are near on impossible if DOM's use 4 m.p.h as a guide.Hitcher wrote:4mph is the walking speed between delivery points, 2.6mph is the overall speed when all the stops are added in.
