Suspended from driving

a colleague has been suspended from driving for over 6 months now after damaging a RM vehicle, he is classed as 'high risk' by the AA. A review was asked for at 6 months and management have stated he has a lifelong ban because of the accident, no one was injured but the vehicle was quite badly damaged. Is there any guidance or timescales on this subject as its affecting his earning potential drastically. He drives to and from work every day.

No bad thing really, he can't be stiffed for any awkward driving jobs and he is also relieved of any responsibility. he is still getting paid....bonus ! :)

I think the relevancy in " makingsounds" " that this person drives to and from work everyday" is that this person has passed his UK driving test at some time and been approved to drive a vehicle on UK roads.
Now on having an accident in a RM vehicle and if it is a first offence this person has received a lifelong driving ban and RM appointed driving assessors the AA have deemed him a high risk.
Is this person the nominated driver in a P&L duty and if so does his work partner feel unsafe when he is driving?
RM would have put this person forward after the accident for a driving reassessment and is it after the reassessment carried out 6 months after the accident that AA report to RM stating high risk that RM has now taken the decision to extend to a lifelong ban?
Has he received a copy of the driving report that AA sent to RM showing the points that AA labelled him as high risk?

If he has been designated a high risk by an independent organisation such as the AA, then the current driving ban is justified. The business has a legal obligation as to his welfare and members of the public.

A life long ban i would say is discriminatory. The very least he should have is 6 monthly reviews as to his driving capability by the AA

He has received no report or paperwork to support the driving ban from the business. He hasn't driven for approx' 9 months now and management are simply stating he is banned with no timescales.

its an old allowance some of us still get from pre SDD agreement

£6/week is the grandfathers rights driving allowance for those who used to be in receipt of a driving allowance, but lost it with the Way Forward Agreement.
You would had to have been a driver 15 years ago to get it.

Best thing I ever did was failing the cross over. AA guy was quite a nice fella until I knocked RM vehicle when reversing into space in Car Park. Poor guy went blue and leapt out the vehicle to find a small dent in tail door. Rushed back to the office to make the report only to be told about an hour later that the dent was already in the vehicle. So much for his pre use of vehicle checks. Anyway not allowed to drive and therefore no vehicle checks to do, no refuelling, no getting sent to other areas to cover driving jobs, just a nice drive as a passenger all day.Brilliant.

If this postie does collection then he would have lost (earnings) out that way. But he is dangerous and that is the main issue here not his loss of additional earnings to his basic wage. He can always try and do some delivery OT and other OT work...
