Re: Collection on delivery
Alternatively you keep your SA and people lose their jobs/hours.
What should a union do?
Protect jobs or protect the overtime of a select few?

Re: Collection on delivery
Alternatively we collect from postboxes in the evening and not at nine in the Mornings
A union should protect jobs but how does this protect jobs? If the boxes were being emptied nearer our finish times I could see that argument
As we are the Union why was the first wave of boxes agreed nationally?
Also my duty has collections built in after my delivery how does that save my job/hours?

Re: Collection on delivery
I get up in the morning to earn money if I get an opportunity through SA to earn more should I say no? We are all at work to earn money the sanctimonious argument about the "select few" is pure nonsense
We have an earnings package at my office agreed as part of our revision should we just give it up? Allow Royal Mail an opportunity to ignore another agreement?
This debate should be about worsening levels of service a year on from privatisation we have price rises, and now reduced collection times from 50000 post boxes
A service? A money sucking corporate entity more like

Re: Collection on delivery
The sad fact is that Royal Mail wanted to take out the pillar boxes all together but were concerned at the media coverage and what impact it would have on the share price even now they are not ruling taking out some of the boxes which have fewer than 50 letters in per day.
The sad thing is that stamp Mail has reduced and these boxes which are moving to delivery have been identified and recorded by collection drivers as having 50 or less items in per day. No company is going to pay SA or hours to collect from such boxes when they could get it done cheaper.
The thing I criticise is that the CWU should have know the HR and earnings effect prior to making an agreement. But anyone who believes that the CWU could have got Royal Mail to pay SA or a duty which involved collecting from pillar boxes with less than 50 items is living in a fantasy world . The fact is that this is the first in a number of moves by Ofcom and Royal Mail to reduce costs and services.

Re: Collection on delivery
Royal Mail and ofcom are obsessed with reducing costs, however it's time the regulator looked at our competitors cherry picking delivery and sorting, and let Royal Mail compete on a level playing field. Royal Mail have cut cut cut and yet they have let TNT and the rest get their foot in the door. They are a disgrace.

Re: Collection on delivery
It's a fairly simple set of options :
Need to increase profit for shareholders is hampered by largest business cost i.e. labour.
Basic wages at this stage cannot be cut to enable savings so add-ons must be.
This can only be achieved by cutting duties or increasing work rate within duties.
Royal Mail believes that this is possible because it perceives gaps, wasted time, inefficient work practises... call them what you will.
This has come about by people who do not care about the end result constantly giving time to the company so they can finish before their due finishing times and now you are all reaping the crop of shite that they have sown.
Every person is entitled to be paid for his labour but only that person decides on the job they will do and whether to accept the rate of pay that is offered.
So don't bitch about the rate of pay for an unskilled job - just do it as it is supposed to be done and the money will roll in when RM find that they can't get something for nothing.
Come in on time - take your breaks - no overtime without payment !!!

Re: Collection on delivery
Unfortunately overtime like everything else in Royal Mail runs on a pseudo-hierarchical basis so Bob the docket queen loses his collection SA, grabs Frank the docket princess's collection SA and so on and so forth until the real loser is Tracy the part-timer trying to get by on a 20 hour contract.clashcityrocker wrote:Protect jobs or protect the overtime of a select few?
It's a great strapline you've got there but the reality is sometimes rather different.

Or Bob the docket queen loses his SA and Tracy the part timer gets her FTC renewed at 20 hours instead of 18.fishtank wrote:Unfortunately overtime like everything else in Royal Mail runs on a pseudo-hierarchical basis so Bob the docket queen loses his collection SA, grabs Frank the docket princess's collection SA and so on and so forth until the real loser is Tracy the part-timer trying to get by on a 20 hour contract.clashcityrocker wrote:Protect jobs or protect the overtime of a select few?

There isn't any OT. The collection is now part of Tracey's duty and that's how she is keeping her 20 hours.fishtank wrote:That's the point, she won't because she won't have her two hours of OT, Frank the docket princess now has it because Bob the docket queen nicked his.clashcityrocker wrote:Or Bob the docket queen loses his SA and Tracy the part timer gets her FTC renewed at 20 hours instead of 18.
