Got my SAYE letter today.....
You pay in a set amount (i was thinking £60 a month) to buy shares in the company at a reduced rate.
If the shares increase in value after 3 years you make a profit.
If the shares decrease in value you get all of your money back.
Now i was always taught - "If it seems too good to be true, chances are it is"
So.... What's the catch?

You lose out on the interest you could have earned.weary_posty wrote:You pay in a set amount (i was thinking £60 a month) to buy shares in the company at a reduced rate.

Re: Got my SAYE letter today.....
Who "HOLDS" all this money that will be paid in ?
Can RM draw from this pot of money ?
What happens if RM fold, will it be used by the official recievers to pay creditors ? ( Like park hampers whose savers got nothing when the company folded )

Aren't the shares 'owned' by the government? And if so don't they get the money?

There is a massive "if" ,missed out there. The way it has gone so far with privatisation,we will be lucky to be here when the time comes.Major.ballsup wrote:You would make about £500. At today's prices of £4.43

Re: Got my SAYE letter today.....
You get all your money back after 3 years if the share price has dropped. With current banks paying less than 2 % interest it seems a pretty good deal.
Rows of houses all bearing down on me........I can feel their blue hands touching me.......All these things in all positions.........All these things will one day take control..........

Re: Got my SAYE letter today.....
I bought £8,000 worth of shares and sold them for £5.61 per share at the end of January,so I made a very nice earner.Buying now is madness IF and a BIG IF you make anything it will be peanuts, royal mail is only going one way and its not up.(19 years service).maisymoo04 wrote:I already bought £3000 worth any way so am giving it a miss

This is what I'm thinking too although I'm still going to invest. At least it will be a bit of cash back if I/we do get the push.Jamesethefirst wrote:There is a massive "if" ,missed out there. Interest rates on savings are rubbish anyway. So its just like taking a punt with Premium Bonds. You may win something but your investment is secure and you can withdraw the money at anytime.
A friend of mine works in the rail industry and worked for Railtrack. When this went scewiff the government bought the shares. So he did quite nicely.
