We get it in out office but only for people that have a walk/float

Was told by Union Rep if we had 1 in 4 they would be job losses.

The manner of which the agreement was set out regarding this was quite misleading I think. Someone correct me if I am wrong, but I'm sure it went something like this....

The majority of employees who want 1 in 4 can have them. However, what is the majority? the majority could be the minority

The majority of employees who want 1 in 4 can have them. However, what is the majority? the majority could be the minority

The lowest majority is 50% +1 - it can never be less than that. Mind you "Can" and "Should" are 2 entirely different concepts

In our office everyone who wanted 1:4 Sat off got it, the other options were SA on day off or a fixed day off.

The problem in our office is, that too many folks (reserves) placed their trust in what the union told them ( that they would get 1 in 4) and it was voted in. Trouble is now the majority of the reserves (some with 10 yrs +) have only had one or two Saturdays off all year and understandably it's causing some resentment within the ranks,due to the fact walk holders get theirs.

Royal Mail has no control over it's managers at all, Reserves get screwed over, some reps are useless lazy f***ers and the union at national level isn't particularly interested as long as the subs keep rolling in. You could call out your rep on it but if the senior bods are getting all the saturdays you're wasting your time.

It can cost an office hours but compared to what you're losing through ongoing "efficiency" savings it's a drop in the ocean.

We don't have any 1 in 6 (or 1 in 4) Saturdays off in our office at all. Asked about it once and was blinded by bulls*** as to the reasons why. And that was from our union rep!!!

In our office we have just been told without a vote for the majority, we will have later starts. This is after we voted for 1 in 4 Saturdays. But this does not apply to all of the office! Those walks introduced by the geo route method before they decided to scrap the revision had some 4 day duties. Management wanted rid of these walks so now those affected have "voted" for different rotations to enable them to have one in four Saturdays. How fair is this? The alternative we have been told by our union,will be an imposed option that would mean cutting duties in the rest of the office.

Our delivery staff have always worked to a 1 in 6 rotate. Howvere the indoor staff always did a 1 in 4 until post revision, when our DOm moved us to 1 in 6 to fall in line with the rest of the office (to provide a fairer environment was his reasoning).
The indoor staff fought this decision to level 3 grievance and failed to get anywhere, despite quoting the agreement and the fact that it was a detremental change to our working conditions.
We were also told that as the office had voted for a 1 in 6 rotate post revision, that was what we had to do. There was never an opportunity to plead our case and the delivery staff couldn't give a fig about the indoor staff anyway.


Some 8 months post revision, without a PIR or any mention, we have staff finishing at least 3 hours before the indoor staff on a daily basis. The indoor staff have had a 1.30hr delivery added to their duties with nothing taken off their existing workload and management are annoyed because we fail to complete our indoor duties now.

All under the umbrella of "Fairness" - yeah right !
