Exit Interview ?

After 6 years with Royal Mail i handed in my notice this morning and in my letter i asked that i use holiday still owed as my notice period (owed about 17 days).I was told by our dom that as HR is not open on a Saturday he could not confirm if i was able to use my holiday and that i would have to come into work next work for at least 2 days,he also told me that i cannot leave until he has arranged an Exit Interview.Please can anybody shed some light on what this "interview" entails.I start my new job on the 8th Sept and really want a week off to get myself ready for a new challenge.

DOM cant insist you stay till you have had exit interview

don't even see why you'd have to agree to an exit interview. wouldn't you be within your rights to remain entirely silent for the duration of it anyway

and how can a manager 'insist' you stay? sounds very odd. you can leave whenever you feel like it, interview or not. correct me if i'm wrong but i think the worst they can do is withhold outstanding money and only in the event of you having broken contractual agreements

when push comes to shove all that matters is what's been written down and agreed on paper

worst that can happen is they can pursue you for any losses they have incurred due to you not working your notice period, so if OT was incurred due to someone just quitting without working their notice, they they could take you to court to recover any costs incurred as a result, very unlikely to happen but it is an option open to them

personally i think it wrong of you not to offer any notice at all, when did you find out you got a new job?

yes you are owed holidays but they'll be calculated in your final pay, which won't be known until HR get all the info, which will be next week,
your manager will have already got your duty planned in with you working it, they'd then have to find a reserve if you just upped sticks.

of course, a call monday morning with the flu? they can hardly give you a stage.
don't burn your bridges, yes its getting a shitty job, but you may find the need to return 1 day

yes, depends on how he wants to "leave" though
as much as i hate our management not sure i'd shat on them like they do to us,
but if i'd also got another job lined up i can see the urgency to leave the nut house.

What purpose does an exit interview have anyway?
Why are you leaving?
I am pissed off, like everybody else.
What can they say? Whose going to take any notice? (No pun intended)
If it were a decent company to work for they would take note of constructive feedback, they aren't, so they won't and the world continues to turn, etc etc

Oh I was a pongo zx and although we spent a considerable time on the ranges it was the matelots who spent time in the butts, in fact rumour has it they had a butt in every port and often more than 1.
