read the new stickers on post boxes on my round and collections will now be anything after 9am starting next month
now i'm guessing that we will empty them as we pass doing our deliveries, 3 on ours and we park outside them anyway.
the scenario then will be anyone posting a 1st class letter at say 10am when we'll have emptied 1 already will not make the advertised aim of next day delivery, the customer will end up thinking they may as well put a 2nd class stamp if it's not getting collected until the next day.

I've said this a couple of times before and no-one commented, but my view is that the general public don't give a toss when they receive their mail. I have to try and jam stuff into those stupid aluminium post boxes that skin your fingers because the owner has not cleared the mail for days, and NO they are not on holiday. I have never been asked why MrsXX or MrYY has not received a letter they were told had been sent the day before. The only one's who might be concerned are the serial shoppers who haven't had their "fix" of the item they only ordered an hour ago and hasn't been delivered That of course is not something bearing a first class stamp.

If they walk,cycle, or drive to there nearest post office there will be a late collection. But I know where your coming from Royal Mail don't give a toss it's profit now all the way

with all the delivery offices failing rounds up and down the country there's no guarantee your first class letter will arrive on time anyway!

On BBC East this week a newsagent in Wisbech is delivering letters to the town and twenty local villages for 30p next day service!

It wouldn't surprise me to see 1C and 2C get merged together for stamped mail at least, with the price for each weight somewhere inbetween the current 1C and 2C rate

The next step will be to collect stamped mail from domestic customers as you deliver - then expect complaints about understamped items being charged at the other end that you didn't warn them about when you accepted them.

This is a good point, the requests to post letters for members of the public is going to rocket with the advent of most local boxes being collected early by the local postman.

the US postal service has always done this as far as I know.
