can delivery staff take the 40 min meal break at the end of the duty. taking 20 mins before you go out as we are told to do make a cup of tea and that's it. meal relief surly means having a meal ?

you can either take a 40 minute break ( whenever you feel like it ( but not at the end of your duty ) ) or 20 minutes somewhere in your hours and 20 mins at the end. ( or 2 x 20 minute breaks anywhere in your duty time )

Take the full 40 minutes, have a proper break, something to eat and drink and a chin wag........

Why anyone would want to rush around to gain 20 minutes is beyond me.

By law we are allowed 20 minutes which RM, who have a duty of care to us, should make sure we take it. We fort hard for the other twenty minutes and people don't want to take it.....

Not entirely sure about this, but, when I was a manager in a diff (prof/ world.) .A break was illegal at the start or the end of a duty. The 20/20 break with 20 at the end is on shaky ground. If a break is interrupted for any reason, the entire break was to be given in full when it commenced.

And your DOM standing with a stop watch and taking you into his office to tell you, you had 22mins , so you owe him 2 mins , we had that, when he removed coffee machine upstairs due to WCM.

Not when you choose. All breaks should be planned into your daily duty schedule as part of the revision, If it's been planned and agreed by the office at phase 4 of the revision process that you can take 20 mins of your break at the end then you can but individual members can't chop and change the time they take their breaks, with the possible exception of rural/single deliveries it would be impossible to manage and chaotic but even a rural delivery should have a structured meal relief. Management do have a right to know what you are doing at any point during your working day.

im sure ive seen it somewhere where u have to do so much work before a meal break , me and my p&l partner start at 6.42 and we sometimes have 20 mins before we leave the office and 20 mins about half way round , or we don't have a break before we leave the office and have 40 mins half way round , you do feel a lot better after a meal break , the dom hates it as he has to sit and wait for us to get back everyday.

I refused to have break in van i am happy to take 20 min break in office b4 we go out, dom starting telling us about 6 weeks ago we must have another 20 mins halfway through delivery but how!? i asked him were do we go for toilet and wash our hands and were do we have break? he said in van but with no disrespect to my partner it is to crampt and hot to sit in van plus it is a busy road everywhere we go and open windows you get fumes from street surely this should not be allowed plus eating your lunch or snack in van is hardly hygienic for anyone , most of the time its too hot in van and when you are wet or cold through surely you do not want to sit in van ,the whole thing is a farce we all complained about it so he now says its up to us but you must have 20 mins in office b4 you go out,so can the union or management explain were we can have a proper break if they cant then people will just not take it, i can not understand anyone having a break in those small vans!

“There is nothing new in people taking breaks, whilst out on delivery, in their vans. Rural duties have been doing this for a long time now, as it was not convenient nor time efficient for individuals to return to their office in order to take a break. However, you are incorrect when you say that basic human rights are denied. In the BT 2010 Agreement provision was made for welfare facilities to be identified on every single delivery route in the country, or on adjacent routes. As part of the revisions process contained within that agreement, CWU area health & safety reps would have ensured that this was done before signing off the safety aspects of the process. If this is not the case in your particular situation you should contact your branch secretary. Another option of course is to take all of your meal relief
before you leave the office on delivery.”
