have heard of this in other offices a while ago, we are very rural so it takes time to filter down to us, we were told "if you have a flat do not touch it phone RAC"
well on a few rounds we have no mobile signal some only a few places,

asked " as there are only 2 places i get mobile signal on my round then do i have to walk 40mins or more till i get signal, phone RAC then go back to van and wait, whilst i have a perfectly good jack and tyre in the van?"

ans " you could ask in a farm etc to use there phone, but yes you do not change a tyre"

asked " so having waited all this time for a tyre to be changed, what am i going to do with all the mail i have left to deliver?" being very rural, on break downs it's usually over the hour till they get to us, if they can find us.

ans "bring it back if you do not want to work over your time"


i understand they like to make life difficult, and it's all about if someone changes it and someone else has an accident and it falls off etc i will be to blame, but i don't understand what is wrong with us changing the tyre doing the duty then getting them to phone RAC on our return to check it's ok, if they are going to do this and you have to be trained to change the tyre then why not train everyone to change the bloody tyres?


i guess i shouldn't worry as the job is getting more you do it our way or no way, i will just bring the mail back and it's the DIMs prob, happy day!

I was told the other day we're not allowed to do it for H&S reasons.
