Meltdown
Its the summer ,quietest traffic time of the year ,time to be making hay ,plentyy of time on your hands before the real run up to Christmas and it gets proper busy.
What I see in reality is Posties all over the country delivering later and later in the after noon ,moral is rock bottom despite a good pay rise and share dividend every one is so fed up .
Line Managers and Doms are so stressed out ,revisions are not working ,cut offs galore ,not enough staff .
Roll on to October and meltdown will happen in the network .
Bring all the planners and senior managers to work in delivery offices ,not just on delivery but callers, shadow line Managers and see the stress the DOM is under, written all over their faces ,some will actually tell you how bad it is.
Now they want us to empty boxes to ,when will someone with basic maths skills or a basic calculator work out the proper maths .If a round in reality takes most days 4 hours , (this is just a example ) how can you put more work onto that without taking away something!

Re: Meltdown
Does it take long to empty a box ? couple of minues or so ... whats the fuss about ? we have done it before why not now? It does not make any sense two staff ( local delivery officer ) and ( collection driver) same place at same time? I think its very good idea for delivery staff to empty boxes and way back ( they would have empty van) clearing post office too.

You haven't done collections then, a PO can take 10 minutes (if there isn't a queue).Gold Fox wrote:Does it take long to empty a box ? couple of minues or so ... whats the fuss about ? we have done it before why not now? Re: Meltdown
wont posties on delivery doing collections mean the mail will be a day late. I mean. we will empty the box and take the mail back to our delivery office right? then it will be collected the next day? or will collection drivers instead of emptying every box in that postcode area just make a single collection from the delivery office? will delivery offices be accepting letters from customers now and have a psotbox outside it ?

Re: Meltdown
You wont be clearing post offices, its only(meant) to be low use post boxes, ones that receive 50 items of mail or less per dayDGP1 wrote:You haven't done collections then, a PO can take 10 minutes (if there isn't a queue).Gold Fox wrote:Does it take long to empty a box ? couple of minues or so ... whats the fuss about ? we have done it before why not now? Not yet, but I will be amazed if it doesn't happen in some form in the future.spen wrote:

I know someone who wrote to our dear leader on this very subject, all they got back was some corporate dribble. She ain't interested in the poor bloody infantry. Privatisation has only made it worse, if that was possible.mPuppetmaster wrote:Its the summer ,quietest traffic time of the year ,time to be making hay ,plentyy of time on your hands before the real run up to Christmas and it gets proper busy.

Re: Meltdown
I already emptied boxes on my rural duty! After the revision I have to do a main PO too (only on a Sat fortunately) but it's a right royal pain in the ass! Even worse at Xmas as I usually still have a fair bit of delivery left and not enough room in the van for the collection!

If you watch this video, albeit an old one but still current thinking - it will tell you all you need to know what MG thinks of 'frontline' workers, the grimace in her face when she talks about 'them'

Re: Meltdown
Majority or some of letter boxes ... going to be done by delivery staff , you like it or don't, makes no difference. RM has made its mind up and they will go through.... how RM is going to implement ....its another headach for all of us ??

Re: Meltdown
Here's one ... my question to justsayit - and the reply - did someone mention "corporate dribble" - well here y'go ...
My Question
Hi
I'm a postie working out of the xxxxxx office delivering in a semi-rural village ... and I have an issue with the "First Time Every Time" mantra viz.
1)Leave enough time for the customer to come to the door. Knock twice.
2) Attempt Delivey to Neighbour every time your customer is not in.
3) Use local knowledge etc etc etc
4) Complete a P739 card etc etc
I'll stop there.
As I understand, the "Pegasus" system allows us 60 seconds per attendance call - it is impossible to carry out 1) to 4) within 60 seconds (working in a semi-rural environment, we get rather a lot of parcels/packets/tracked etc - the lack of shops are just one reason ... obviously the internet is the other "biggie").
It then becomes annoying when Managers start to question why walks are taking so long (and we attempt to book overtime) - phrase often used is "Mail is light today". Again - as I understand it - there is detailed information on mech mail, tracked items and specials - but not on IPS mail and parcels (please correct me if I'm wrong here !).
I hear the phrase "Our competitors are doing it" - but they are being paid "by the parcel" ... we are being paid "by the hour" - and 60 seconds per attendance call (especially on Wednesdays and Thursdays) is just NOT enough time (it can take over 60 seconds to correctly fill out a P739 - another point which is often made).
I'd be interested to hear your views on the above.
The reply ...
Thank you for sharing your experience with Moya’s JustSayIt site. I work as part of the Just Say It team and your email has been shared with me for a response. I am sorry to hear about your concern.
Delivery to Neighbour provides a better customer experience because customers do not have to make a special journey to the delivery office. Our frontline colleagues are putting in a fantastic effort to deliver parcels, and this helps ensure that our customers will receive their parcels quickly.
Delivery to Neighbour has been standard for our competitors and we have now issued a guideline alongside the CWU, this means D2N is now a standard part of our delivery procedure. Research and information provided from Ofcom tells us this is what our customers expect. It also helps our efficiency because storing and reissuing undelivered mail and offering a free redelivery increases our operational costs, undelivered mail also causes a queue at the enquiry office. Our frontline colleagues should decide the most optimum neighbour to receive the item, and this will be based on local knowledge and experience from performing the delivery. Increased and better automation will free up time that has been spend sorting and will provide more time out on delivery.
I understand that the walk to and from another address may take a little time and this may impact on your finish time. The local management teams should help using their normal local procedures for working over. Please keep your manager and local CWU representative informed about your delivery and let them both know if you are having any difficulties.

Re: Meltdown
We have a couple of afternoon duties to empty POs and the boxes afternoon side and about 5 SAs to collect business collections - all other collections are carried out by delivery staff, callers office receives mail in until 6 and all collections return to the DO and a final run to the MC is done around 6.30/7 and this has been the way for a number of years.raikky wrote:wont posties on delivery doing collections mean the mail will be a day late.
