Doorstepped packet, ignore & leave, or act?

On OT today delivered to address with a big gold jiffy propped against the door with an RM 48 tag on it. Phoned office and was instructed by rep to leave it as it wasn't me. To be honest I can't see anybody from our office doorstepping, it was in full view from a busy road at the top of a set of steps.

So not knowing the circumstances should you ignore it or retrieve it and 739 it?

Leave it.I have seen Yodel delivering stuff with RM on it,I did report it but I think managers knew about that sort of thing already.

personally i would have left a card stating that the parcel stepped was not by royal mail, only takes a minute & covers you, unless they're bent?

A mate of mine did that a couple of years ago and went down the conduct code. I'd be surprised if this is official policy given the sort of warnings we have been given recently about unsecured locations

I daresay this (verbal) instruction will be denied if anything went wrong. Maybe ask the DOM to put this in writing....

When you are on a duty that does all the letters, packets and specials for an address and you find a RM item doorstepped you cannot be sure it hasn't been delivered by RM.

In our office the IPS accuracy is very uneven. This means if a neighbouring duty cuts off their York of parcels it will be done by a partimer in O/T. They will deliver them all, including missorts for neighbouring duties. They will not have checked for redirections, keepsafes or special instructions. And I suspect they will not give a toss about doorstepping as they either don't know not to do it or they know it is unlikely they will be identified as the culprit if there is a complaint.

This is clearly a way of getting the results to fit while at the same time making sure there's no comeback on them.

Do not leave anything because at the end of the it's your job on the line not theirs.

Personally I'd leave it because you don't know the circumstances for it being there, It might have been delivered legitimately and then placed on doorstep by the householder for a friend to collect,

leave it. especially if its tnt or yodel etc. one time I saw 5 big parcels outside a house and it was thunderstorm and rain. the parcels were drenched. and the neighbour saw me and opened her door to tell me to bring her the parcels. I said nothing to do with us (also thinking if she knew they were there why not make the 3 metre walk and take em in yourself )

YES PLEASE get the DOM to put this in writing and sign it. Theres no way hes going to do it.
