I understood ,that part of the last pay deal the cwu wanted to establish ,What consititues a fair days work? .
Strangley I have heard no more about this in ages ,why?
What I do see and hear is, substantially larger rounds post revision ,many which are a challenge to complete on even a light day ,more outdoor absorption, more indoor work ,meaning you leave the office later to do a even larger delivery than before, and now it has been agreed that dutys will now due collections from mail boxes as well, which makes sense as long as enough time in your working day ?
In reality I see fatigued Postmen and Women all over the country ,who are demoralised and struggling to cope with the already excessive work load, in traditionally the quietest mail traffic volumes of the year with yet more suggestion they are not working hard enough coming from both the cwu and RM.
Have any of these officials ever done a average size round on Park and loop ,+outdoor absorption +indoor absorption, then you get asked why you wont do overtime?
As I have said before "bring on all the extra work ,as much as possible ,you know you can do do it,it is good for you,it will save your job" so long as I do not have to do it !

Re: What consititues a fair days work?
The problem is up and down the country from office to office there is a large variance in the amount of work being done, in some offices doms have gone far to far and are demanding far too much but in just as many other offices, the doms dont have a grip on it, and posties are finishing upto an hour or two before their times,
Also inside each office is different as well, some people getting away with finishing early and then others getting harassed to work over
you see plenty of posts from both sides of the fence on here
Too many people are just looking after themselves rather than working together

Re: What consititues a fair days work?
Royal Mails,s biggest mistake, aided and abetted by CWU was to push back start and delivery times. When we started in our SPDO at 6am we were out on the street delivering from 8am-8.30ish and finished at 12.30 to 1.00ish. If there was a sickness or problem in the office there was still time and also the will, to muck in and get the work done, earn a bit of overtime and still finish at a reasonable time of day allowing those with school children to collect them and be home to give them their tea. Now we start at 8.50am not out the office until 11am and finish time is 4.40pm. There is no time if there are any sickness/problems, no willingness to help out and no chance of picking up the kids. The job has been destroyed both for the customer who is now never in to receive packets, or their business does not get mail until late into the afternoon, and for us. I judge a business as being profitable when not only does it provide a fair and reasonable return for those who put their money into the business, but can also provide fair and rewarding work for those who work to make it profitable. What we have at the moment is shareholders who have been rewarded way and above what the company has earned or is earning, management that are rewarding themselves for cutting the business to the bare bone to such an extent that it is now struggling to provide any sort of fair and reasonable days work, and a growing discontent amongst the workforce and customers alike.

Re: What consititues a fair days work?
I think theres still a mentality of rushing around. Theres 2 reasons for this. One is people are still making time and rushing around will allow them to get home even earlier. The second is people dont know how to handle the pressure theyre put under. They get given too much work than they can complete in the hours working at a fair pace, and instead of talking to their manager about it for whatever reason theyll rush to try and finish it all. Its a hard mentality to understand but I think it comes from our past working methods and job and finish. Many people will rush to get it done to "save having to come back to it tomorrow" a bizarre concept when they demonstrate that they have to rush around EVERY day and the cycle continues.
In my office youre seen something of a trouble maker if you have the cheek to take your break, as these people tend to be the same ones who just work their contracted hours and been long term cutting off and not lapsing due to not having time. These people in the main now have smaller deliveries than the runners have, which in itself is causing friction. These smaller deliveries are not small, or "easy" theyre the correct length, but the runners would tell you differently, in fact when they cover these duties they tend to finish very early after the short cuts they take (not taking breaks, working at a rushing speed)

Re: What consititues a fair days work?
I was recently sent to a small office just 10 miles away, for approx 7 weeks. I couldn't believe the differences. The office operated a 4 day week as the walks were slightly bigger. I was finishing earlier than I would at my regular DO as it was job and knock. We didn't have to use trollies and lapsing was only done on Monday, Tuesday and Saturday. I've never had it so easy. Told the guys there about DO i'd been sent from and it immediately made them feel better about their jobs. To be fair, it was too relaxed and too easy. But then you've got my office that is too regimented and obsessed with squeezing every last drop of blood and sweat out of you. All offices should stick to the same policies and not operate from one extreme to another. But this is Royal Mail and it will always defy logic.zx135 wrote:The problem is up and down the country from office to office there is a large variance in the amount of work being done, in some offices doms have gone far to far and are demanding far too much but in just as many other offices, the doms dont have a grip on it, and posties are finishing upto an hour or two before their times,
