Collection Duties Scrapped?

Just heard a bad rumour. And I stress RUMOUR. That collection duties are to be scrapped at our office and instead 3 or 4 collections are to be added to every walk.

Wouldn't that be a tad too early for collections ?

Yes, "the ATS will enable final collections from c.45k to 50k low usage Postboxes (less than 50 items per day) to be performed as an integral part of identified delivery routes (i.e. collections on delivery)". Those 45,000 to 50,000 "low usage" boxes, nearly half of the 115.300 existing Postboxes, will be just about all of the rural ones which probably only have one collection a day anyway. So we can expect all rural collection duties to disappear soon.

Just a Business / Sub Post Office collection duty ?

The vast majority of box collections in our office are already collected on Delivery ( deep rurals ) the earliest being 9am Mon-Fri !! , only the small villages get collected in the Afternoon

If only half the collections go , how many hours have been " saved " ? ( culled ), money for old rope for the bean counters.

Will we find delivery staff leaving their docket lefts at the MCs or will they then have to drive back to their DOs? Or will they bring the contents of the collections to the DO and a van takes them from the DO to the MC (if the van is a 600 it might collect the collections from 2 or 3 DOs before returning to the MC

No business collections, no Post Offices, just a dozen very rural postboxes on some rural duties like mine.
So presumably the collection time will be brought forward to between 10am and 1pm so there's no danger of any waiting about.

Hmmm. Rural boxes on my round had their collection times reviewed: Manager said they took an average of the last 3 months collection time. What idiots! Already had to miss boxes and do something else then go back cos too early, the average was just an average of how late the box was scanned, not what time we got there first time, because obviously they couldn't be scanned early.
Now some boxes are up an hour and a half later, some have earlier times on a saturday and some don't. All of em are too late first time round on a monday tuesday and saturday, so I drive back to them all at the end of delivery, adding another 12 miles and 15-20 mins every day. T**sers.
