Trying the neighbours

Anyone here actually tried the neighbours [both sides] for every docket left packet for the whole round? How did you get on? Personally I can't see how it can be done even on a Tuesday.

Only on a freakishly quiet day, on one of the walks that is renowned for the emptiness of its packet bags.
Even trying 3 neighbours I still couldn't get rid of everything

I would have thought it was a very relevant reason for not making attempts. What RM want is a pliant workforce willing to bomb up and down the road regardless of how long it takes.

why don't we deliver the mail and d2ds to neighbours as well, that way we could lapse half the office and still finish early.
imagine no more miss deliveries , you could choose which of the two or three house got the mail, so missing out on bad dogs, grumpy customers , dangerous drive ways etc. we could start by just delivering to adjacent properties and if it went well move on to a group of four or fives houses in one go, and eventually one house per street.

So, with the extra time required to knock the added doors, won't there be more mail left undelivered/Taken back ?
And if yer a Floater, how do you recall which of the 500 houses you deliver to, and the extra 1,500 you COULD deliver to, are Dog Safe???
One comment off one of our workers was..."I'd NEVER let MY neighbours take my parcel." Its gonna come to a crunch, when a neighbour denies anything was left.
Additionally, does this mean the evening Callers Office will be shut..as there won't be ANY Callers to collect ANY Parcels?

When I first started we had a group of 5 or 6 deliveries which we rotated week by week - this bloke came out of his house at the first house in the cul de sac screeching about how I'd delivered the mail the week before to him for the whole cul de sac - I tried to protest but in the end I just apologised.
The bastard the week before had been delivering all the mail to him and when I confronted him about it he said it was faster!

What a great idea, Royal Mail have a special department in Sheffield for exactly that sort of thing, staffed entirely with graduates ,who have never done a delivery ever. Their latest corker was to suggest Moya was underpaid. Brilliant!

more attempts = longer duty spans = more hours required in office = safeguards full time jobs and gives extra hours to part timers

Yes of course it does - but just as a matter of interest how many extra duties has it created in your office, how many hours extra to part timers, I 'll bet there's longer duty spans though and lapsing.

Yes of course it does - but just as a matter of interest how many extra duties has it created in your office, how many hours extra to part timers, I 'll bet there's longer duty spans though and lapsing.

at our last revision we got several pt staff made up to ft, being completely honest there has been a slight drop in mail coming into our office (not the mythical 20%) our dom claims, but we did notice people getting round a little quicker, now that delivery to neighbour has been brought in, the ones in our office who do it are now taking longer and using up this saving and a little bit more, your looking at realistically another 10-15 door knocks a round due to delivery to neighbour so its just over breaking even on time but to our benefit, if we could just get everyone in our office to do it then i think we could get another postie made full time, but we have a few guys who are only thinking about number one at the moment

Tried several times on quieter days though I always brought a least one parcel back (besides Special/Int'l Signed For). I was generally fed up with repeated attempts towards the end of the duty and it became "half-hearted".

Most of my 'park and loop' partners don't even try more than one neighbour. They know their duties very well. They use their knowledge to pick the most likely neighbour to take delivery.
This gives them greater than 75% chance of delivering the parcel. They're not going to waste any more valuable time for the possibility of raising that figure slightly. it's inefficient.
