When does the Acting managers old posties job readvertised

hi , Can i have clarification on the above ,

We have had 2 posties going as acting managers , one has been for 9months and still ongoing , the other has been for 3 months ongoing .

We want to know when there old duties(walks) should be re advertised .

Is there a time limit , or is it open ended and there duties never readvertised.

I don't know if there is an agreement on this, I can't remember one but all the offices I have heard off tend to keep the duty vacant until they are either made substantive or returned to OPG grade.

We were just talking about this at our office before we left off... I was under the impression that the duty remains vacant for 2 years whereas a colleague thought it was 18 months...

we had a postman come line manager who picked a duty and never walked it in 3 years, so the poor sap paired with it never had a regular oppo.
only came off it when they made some full time leave reserves duties available, he took that to get 39hrs and never done that duty either!

True... but I believe the maximum length of time the job remains unfilled is either 18 months or 2 years... by then the 'acting' manager should be offered a permanent position on that side of the fence... in practice the reality is probably somewhat different...

It remains their duty until they are made substantive, there is NO agreement about the 2 year thing, I have known these people to be doing it for years and years, and every re-sign we have we have to track them down so they can have their pick

The duty always remains theirs until they come back or are made substantive

meanwhile someone does it until then ( if they pick it)

Happened to me a good few years back,signed for a duty then at the last minute they remembered the guy in front of me on the seniority list who was an acting manager.

They had to ring him to see if he wanted the walk and with it being the last one,of course he said yes,thus demoting me back to reserve.

Was sick as the proverbial parrot at the time.
