managers doing work of postie's

Should management unload lorries? Push York'd mail in? Sort tray'd mail out etc.? Or should all of this work be done daily by postie's? Its just that recently management have been doing this to get us out earlier so we do more lapsing. Should i stop them? And how?

I suspect that the average Delivery office has twice the number of managers it needs and so they spend half their time doing post(wo)man's work.

basically if its anything to do with the sorting and delivery of the mail they shouldnt be doing it, they are there to manage, so moving yorks, putting d2ds out puting boxes of mail on frames are all posties jobs, if a manager is doing it, they are directly taking money out of the pocket of posties

this endless argument over managers doing rank and file work. im opposed to it, but stopping it is another matter if fellow union members don't perceive it as a problem. I know of some offices where opg's stand away from the frame if managers sort, but these are few and far between. you can bet your bottom dollar that a manager has been told to do rank and file work by their superiors, and there's bound to be an agreement to say in an emergency , uso under threat , dispatch likely to fail, that they can do said work. I tend to make a note of how much work managers do, then when the inevitable round of revisions/cost cutting comes along use it in negotiating . but at the end of the day these managers are just doing themselves out of a job, and will be opg's permanently soon.
