does anyone have any information currently how many mail centres there are in the UK?

How many they plan to close or shutdown in the short to medium term?

And how many are undergoing a closure or merger at this moment in time?

Team brief on BSI we got informed next round or mail centre rationalization will be based on the performance with poor peforming mail centres the first on the list to close and shut down (rather than location of the specific mail centres), any truth in this?

Hopefully some high up union reps in th know can shed some light?

That sounds whats on the horizon but it's interesting to note that all the Super MCs are failing due to size of areas covered and amount of mail going thru it. The big problem is the cutbacks that are being made ie duties and overtime which is not helping. I keep seeing stuff on Swindon failing all the time but it's happening everywhere I heard via a WTL that the Medway are losing 2000 hours and that was proposed by the local CWU. All the management wanted was 600hrs. There are rumours about Mount Pleasant closing for good which def has got to be a joke as you need a MC inside central London due to traffic. Both Greenford and Jubilee are at capacity even thru I hear Greenford might be just under capacity. Croydon and Gatwick set for merger if 2nd runway goes ahead at Gatwick. HCN big area probably could take some work but where from? And then Moya and co say the end is nigh for letters and packets it does sound like one big joke but it's not April the 1st

There's also the possibility that the Greenford MC building could get CPO'd for the building of HS2 so that has to be factored in. I wonder if a new version of Mail Rail (or whatever the underground mail line was called) could be implemented from a large MC site outside of London to the larger DOs which could act as local distribution hubs to the smaller DOs

Any business based on distribution needs premises in the best possible locations and it's a failing of management if they can't transform 'poor performing' mail centres into efficient mail centres.
If Inverness is the best performing of Scotland's four mail centres do you really think jobs are under threat at Aberdeen and Edinburgh and Glasgow ?
